Can’t help but think what might’ve been if Mike Elias wasn’t involved in the daily lineups and the managing of this team.
If we had a guy like Buck in the dugout someone who actually played his best players every damn day instead of running matchup charts, rest days, and platoon math like it’s a lab experiment this club would look a lot different right now.
Buck didn’t need a spreadsheet to tell him who was rolling that week belonged in the lineup. He put the guys out there who could play, held them accountable, and let them figure it out. The computer nerds treat baseball like a video game and wonder why the clubhouse feels lifeless and the results keep stalling.
Elias built a talented core. Credit where it’s due. But the front office has never trusted a real baseball man to run the game on the field. First-time managers who nod along, lineups that look like they’re designed in a conference room, and another September where we’re talking about “what if” instead of October.
The nerds with their computers are ruining baseball. Give me a manager who still believes in the smell of the grass and the guy who’s hot right now over the projected wOBA vs. a lefty on a Thursday
