Why Do the Same Spiritual Teachings Transform Some People, But Not Others?
Bhagavad Gita 3.31–32
Lord Krishna says:
«"Those who faithfully follow My teachings with faith and without fault-finding are freed from the bondage of Karma. But those who criticize and reject them, lacking discrimination, deprive themselves of wisdom and remain lost."»
Context
In Chapter 3, Karma Yoga, Lord Krishna teaches Arjuna how to perform action without becoming bound by it.
After explaining selfless action, Krishna reveals that the same teaching can produce two completely different results.
One person approaches it with faith, humility, and sincerity.
Another approaches it with ego, cynicism, and fault-finding.
The teaching is the same.
The difference lies in the seeker's attitude.
The Core Meaning
Krishna contrasts two kinds of seekers.
The first possesses Śraddhā, faith born of sincerity. Such a person listens with an open mind, practices the teaching, and allows experience to become the judge. This openness gradually frees them from the bondage of Karma.
The second is dominated by Abhyasūya, the habit of fault-finding. Instead of sincerely experimenting with the teaching, they reject it before living it. Their criticism becomes a barrier to their own growth.
Krishna is not asking for blind belief.
He is asking for honest experimentation.
Knowledge becomes transformative only when it is practiced.
Otherwise, even the highest wisdom remains mere information.
Practical Application
Whenever you encounter profound wisdom:
• Listen with an open mind.
• Reflect deeply.
• Practice sincerely.
• Judge only after experience.
Healthy questioning leads to understanding.
Habitual fault-finding closes the door before wisdom can enter.
Instead of asking,
«"Why is this wrong?"»
Ask,
«"What truth might I be missing?"»
Even in daily life, this principle applies.
A person who sincerely practices patience, gratitude, or selfless service discovers their value through experience.
One who dismisses them without trying never receives their benefits.
Connection with Chapter 3
These verses beautifully conclude Krishna's teaching on Karma Yoga.
After explaining selfless action (Verses 19–30), Krishna says that those who faithfully live this wisdom are gradually liberated, while those who reject it remain bound. He then goes on to explain why people act according to their conditioning and how desire becomes the real obstacle to freedom.
Reflection
Ask yourself:
• Do I approach wisdom with openness or immediate criticism?
• Do I sincerely practice before forming conclusions?
• Am I seeking transformation, or merely agreement?
@Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's Insight
A fault-finding mind can never experience fullness. Śraddhā is not blind belief, but an openness that allows wisdom to blossom through experience. When knowledge is lived with sincerity and a spirit of service, Karma becomes a path to freedom.
The Essence
The same wisdom is available to everyone.
Faith opens the door.
Ego closes it.
The Bhagavad Gita reminds us that transformation begins not with knowing the truth, but with living it.

Why is Lord Shiva represented as Lingam?
@Gurudev Sri Sri explains, "Linga means identification, a symbol through which you can identify what the truth is, what the reality is. What is not visible but yet can be identified by one thing; that is linga. When a baby is born, how do you know its gender? Only through one part of the body can you identify whether the baby is a boy or a girl. That’s why the genital is also called linga. How do you identify the Creator? He has no form! So then, they said that there should be a sign to identify Him. So the sign, by which you identify both the male and female forms, combining them both to form one single symbol to identify the Lord who has no form or identity; who is all-pervading in this entire Brahmanda (Creation), is Shiva Linga. Shiva Linga is ancient. From the form, you go to the formless, through the Shiva Linga. It is a symbol that is the representation of the cosmos and the creator of the cosmos, as one. It is the Shiva and the Shakti, the two principles in Creation. The silent unmanifest and the dynamic manifestation together are represented as Shiva Linga, which is not just Shiva, but the completion of total Supreme Consciousness.
Shiva is worshipped in the form of a linga, not as a final destination, but as a doorway to the infinite, a path to transcendence.
The linga represents the beginning of the four stages of spiritual realisation. The first stage, sannidhya, is feeling the presence. The second, samipya, is a sense of closeness with the divine. Sarupya is when one begins to embody divinity. Finally, sayujya is the ultimate state, the complete merger and realisation of oneness with the divine."
