Moderation is a trick diet promoters often play to distract us from the very hard work of developing new habits. Until the new diet is equally convenient, familiar, and enjoyable you don’t have much of a choice. Without new habits, rare and appropriate is a trap not a treat.
They restrict, but it’s at the adaptive subconscious level. When I control an individual’s intake, no matter their incoming weight, it’s trivial to make them lose or gain. What’s more difficult is unwinding a lifetime of habits and traditions associated with food to build a new, flavorful, fulfilling plate. Anyone can do that. Anyone can dismiss it as too difficult. It’s far easier and enjoyable than the treatments for diet induced chronic disease.
We are creatures of habit & appetite isn’t a trait of negative selection in a calorie scarce world. tweaks invoke a halo of interrupted habits and work effortlessly for a while. Until the new diet is equally convenient, familiar, and enjoyable to the diet that casued the problem, we don’t have much of a choice. One or more of those will likely dominate our plate.
@DJSnM@JustinGentle @pentaquarky @GoZeroG It was quite the ordeal. In a mature bureaucracy there’s a rule against everything… the best story is how we pulled of The Matrix sequel flights before we were part 121. All legit. FAA helped us make it happen.
@JustinGentle@DJSnM @pentaquarky @GoZeroG That was an advantage, but the reason was that it was similar to KC-135 (B707), 727s were all being moved into cargo (cycle time), and the biggest hurdle was the FAA allowing it, not the optimal aircraft. We talked with many 121 operators from UPS to small single plane ops.
@kevinnbass@_Z__ Kevin, I don’t hate you. I’ve not promoted ice baths. I’ve written about the impact of mild cold stress as part of system of impacts that may be beneficial. Cool, dark, still, and scarce vs chronic warm, bright, active, and abundant. https://t.co/otc9t7KxMd
@mandipbhangu @pashpally@PeterAttiaMD I don’t know about that, but mild cold stress does have a long term impact and in the hundreds of metabolisms I’ve measure, never seen a broken one. Chronic overnutrition is likely the biggest issue facing people that struggle. It’s the antithesis of dietary restriction.
@CameronRuggles@davidasinclair@washingtonpost Because it’s centered on cool not cold. There’s likely no advantage to extreme. With analogous dietary restriction without malnutrition, long term fasting (i.e >36 hours vs decreased meal frequency) isn’t necessary for one to see benefit. Contrast showers suffice #mildcoldstress
@gah@Twitter Just needed a break from the noise. I did work some in commercial space with the reboot of @GoZeroG, but that wasn’t the reason. Even took @davidasinclair for a taste of weightlessness.
@DarrenChamish Better probably isn’t the best word - different. Vaso constrict/dilate has benefits. It’s particularly good post workout to minimize soreness and decrease recovery time.
@gah@GenoPalate “Starvation mode” = burn fat. Always. Lower the calorie intake the more that will come from meals already eaten and stored. https://t.co/xyqGGZK9AG
@gah@GenoPalate Yes. How exactly would that work? You mean the body doesn’t use it’s energy storage organ in times of no food? How would we evolve such a trait in a calorie scarce world? https://t.co/otc9t7KxMd
