Before people moved into present- day NAJJANANKUMBI, it was inhabited by the Kabaka’s servants called 'Ba Musenero' who were responsible for preparing the Kabaka’s banana juice.

They neither dug nor performed any other duties because they were not supposed to touch the ground.

They stayed home while their wives worked & whenever a woman died, the hoe handle would be removed & the hoe buried under banana stems in her garden.

The handle would then be taken to her kitchen & placed where firewood was kept to signify that the woman had not died, but continued to dig and cook.

Whenever a passerby showed concern for the bushy homestead & garden, instead of saying his wife had died, the man would say,‘Najja na nkumbi na sigaza muyini,’ meaning, “I came with a hoe, but I retain just the handle,” hence the name ‘NAJJANANKUMBI.’

In her study on diagnosing #Alzheimers disease as a platform for improving geriatrics training in Uganda , Prof. Noeline discovered that 1 in 3 Ugandans aged 60 & above suffers from the disease. This means that more older people are being disabled by the disease.
