@MikeIsaac But it is desirable for the other Morgan Stanley clients that were allocated priced shares. Morgan Stanley gets their fee either way. And it’s questionable how much anyone cares about a bank’s reputation when it comes to this.
@SeanTrende I suspect most of the judges are clear eyed as to the threat. But what would be the point of having Article III - or the rest of the Constitution - if everyone needs to simply cower? Let’s get things out in the open. If America is ending, let’s not pretend.
@powerbottomdad1 But that’s where you are hypocritical: it’s “making up fake things” for people to take Elon at his word and/or his blundering sledgehammer approach, but it’s NOT “making up fake things” to overstate the amount of fraud or pretend like he has a clue how to solve it.
@powerbottomdad1 That’s the lack of “real arguments”: the idea that Elon can magically save us 600-700 billion in purportedly fraudulent entitlement spending that probably doesn’t even exist without also cutting real entitlements is bogus. And that is why people are freaking out.
@powerbottomdad1 Context matters. It’s reasonable for you to assume that even without him saying it, this guy is not just concerned about what we call SS payments. It’s also reasonable for people to think, given the context, that fraud and waste could mean reducing legitimate payments.
@powerbottomdad1 To your larger point: you think people are not entitled to read into Elon’s motives, just take him at his word that he is only coming for “fraud and waste.” At the same time, you are interpreting a tweet that says “don’t call it an entitlement” as meaning a lot more.
@powerbottomdad1 Fair, my number was off of SS alone. But he’s still talking about cutting up to 25% of total entitlement spending. It’s reasonable for people to see that as reducing legitimate payments and not just waste and fraud. If you want “real arguments” let’s start with evidence of that.
@powerbottomdad1 I don’t see how you can eliminate a “half-trillion to six or seven hundred billion a year” and call it eliminating “waste and fraud”. That’s 40-50% of spending. He’s clearly talking about reducing the amount paid out.
@themightygk Can’t legislate Citizens United out of existence, even if it were a good idea. Gun control is not a “money in politics” issue, republicans don’t adopt a 2A position because of industry financial support, they do it because the Republican voter base is rabidly pro-gun.
@JHWeissmann We’ve noticed you can’t stop coming back to it. The Supreme Court just said Presidents can crime all they want, the other guy said he’s gonna nonstop crime when he gets in office, and yet you can’t shut up about how old Biden is.
