You’re right, but I think this cuts both ways. It’s not as if most young women are particularly attentive to their health either, especially at the preventive stage where it actually matters most.

Young men and women are largely equally careless in this regard. Many don’t watch what they eat, drink alcohol casually without much reason, and even exercise more for aesthetics than for long term health, though that still helps to be fair.

So I don’t think this is a gender specific issue. If the argument is based on seeing more men in hospitals at older ages, that conclusion can be misleading. There are many contributing factors, including biological ones. For instance, the hormonal flexibility in women, often complained about, also comes with certain health advantages, even if modest.

If we compare looking at mortality rate with actual disease specific outcomes like some you mentioned, we'll have a different opinion. Diabetes for instance, interestingly have more women mortality rate recorded there, though this can also be influenced by population differences at older ages (which occasional data reports women to be more than men).

Bottom line, everyone regardless of gender needs to take preventive health more seriously.
