This is the Focus Rat. It’s probably one of the worst implemented pieces of film gear ever to hit the market. It works incredibly well as a saddle to position the camera on or to use while shooting handheld but the rustle from the fabric scrapping against the beads on the inside makes it unusable. It comes out so loud in the recordings that it’s sometimes difficult to tell what the subject being filmed is saying. Sorry, @FocusRat but we can’t have gear that’s so loud it drowns out our audio.

B&H still has it in their system that it’s supposed to arrive today but that doesn’t seem to be happening. We have shoots to plan and if we need to wait another three months we may need to go in a different direction. Thank you.

Newark Penn Station has to have the most annoying time table in travel history. Rather than just changing to update current arrival times it spins through everything like a slot machine.

But the longer I sat here watching it the more sense it made: travel in the USA is now very much like a casino game. You have no idea when or if your train / bus / flight is going to arrive and when it actually does on time it feels like you won something.

The ultimate mod to the Blackmagic Pocket 4K. I love this camera because of its size, versatility, and image quality… but the lack of any battery life meant you always had to rig it up… and the placement of the screen on the back wasn’t ideal for shooting handheld (the reason this camera exists). So I funded the Kickstarter for Pod Mod and then screwed up the job trying to do it myself. Fortunately, the people at @KolariVision were there to help me out. I rode out to NJ today and they quickly fixed what seemed at one point to have been a disaster. Thank you to the team there!

Please help. Yesterday while filming a doc about the underground exotic pet trade my Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K suddenly wouldn’t turn back on. This went on for about five minutes and then it came back to life. Now it’s seeming as if it’s taking an extremely long time to boot up.
