There is one tornado scar that beats them all.
It happened in Krasnoyarsk, Krai, USSR, sometime in the summer of 1965.
Moving ESE through a forest, the scar of this titanic tornado alone was more than 2 MILES WIDE in some places, averaging 1.5 miles wide.

One year ago today, I chased a secondary target in eastern New Mexico and documented a tornado in Floyd. I did not see a single storm chaser the entire chase. This is a comprehensive thread looking at the forecast, observations, tornado evolution and reasoning behind the target.
When you think about it as a storm chaser it's kinda scary thinking about how much we know about tornadoes.
A friend could show me a random photo of a tornado & I'd know the date/time/state, etc. If they say a random town, there's a chance I know a tornado nearby.
We need help
Quite a remarkable statistic...
Jefferson County is the only county in Alabama that has not had a Tornado Warning since Feb 17, 2022, which was 1,540 days ago.
Yesterday, of course, continued this streak.
