Reasoned Writing / A Framework for Scientific Papers: Use writing to support reasoning, and reasoning to improve writing. Goals: promote active learning&equity
Actively learn research methods, statistics, & scientific writing, in book format:

Approaches:
A) Implement empirical (resampling) models in spreadsheets to understand statistics.
B) 3 pillars of science writing: Structure, Simplicity, Specificity.
SECTION 4: Academia, Writing, and Communication
Last but not least are some resources I’ve loved for writing, figure making, presenting, etc.

What if the best colleges in the country are the ones that help lift students to greater prosperity and economic security, not the colleges that mainly enroll students who already enjoy those benefits?
What if we spent more time talking about and supporting the colleges where most students are enrolled, rather than the ones that reject the most students? 🧵
The perception of IQ as a seemingly objective measure of intelligence is frequently used to promote racist pseudoscience on social media.
For this reason, I think it's extremely important for people to know some relevant facts about IQ:
"Mastodon is social media run by your community, not a company. No ads, no algorithms, no manipulation, no surveillance. Your content and social graph are yours to use on other services. And it will stay that way"

#Mastodon#TakeBackSocial
@TrackingActions I've reached an inflection where my Mastodon feed is now better than my Twitter feed.
I'm hoping that the snowball has started rolling...
Here's where I ask for help. We would like to develop a formative course assessment (a "Mid-semester Learning Dialog") whose primary purpose is to directly and immediately benefit _students_. An example of a content domain is below. Does anyone know of examples of such a thing?
Student Evaluations of Teaching do not effectively measure learning, are biased, and impede the use of high-impact teaching strategies.
Our Senate task force at CSUSM made some initial recommendations to reform faculty evaluation. The report is here:

@lecagle @billhd Another analogy is to the concept of "transfer" in motor learning. If you train on one motor task, then some of the resulting improvement can transfer to other tasks (either positively or negatively), but often only a portion.
@bethanydonaghy1 I actually think there can be value in NOT using synonyms, particularly for important words like indicating conclusions. Repetition can be a way to simplify writing: https://t.co/mVRThvzd8X
However, sometimes it might be nice to spice things up (although not too spicy ;-)
@Troy_BiomechLab @frankiewade21 Seconded! Personally, I think that the outcome of testing the predictions of the particular experiment of the study (what I call the "measurable" hypotheses) is appropriate for the Results section:

Data _support_ the results.
@StevenXClontz@ElProfeLowe@kimdayers It turns out that I also use "visibly random groups," although I learned that name from y'all. The thing is, that when students find people they like, they maintain relationships when I rearrange the teams and then you have cross-communication among teams. It mostly works for me.
