@Sue_Cowley Intrinsic motivation is key, the biggest issue I’ve faced in resit maths at FE is they didn’t want to do it in school and they definitely don’t want to do it again. They are totally indoctrinated that it’s irrelevant to them

@miss_mcinerney In my context, the behaviour is being driven by some of the highest levels of apathy and disaffection with education I have ever seen. They aren’t even motivated to the vocational subjects they chose in some cases

Anyone have any fairly easy (for gcse 1-4 level students) maths quiz questions, picture questions, dingbats, puzzles etc? Got to continue teaching my 16-18 ESOL group after exams and trying to put together a quiz. #femaths #edutwitter

Tonight I started experimenting with a crochet fidget with spin beads (need to use beads all the same size and adjust tension). I’ve also found a pattern for a mobius strip crochet I’ll be trying. If anyone in #educrochet #edutwitter has ideas or patterns do let me know

Fidget toys- a yarn 🧶 1/?
I’ve been against fidget toys since I started teaching. I genuinely felt that they didn’t help and some students would use them as an excuse to not work. I have never allowed them in my classroom

However, four weeks ago I had to start rethinking my stance when I was told how much a stress ball was helping my daughter cope with whole class activities. I have since allowed a couple of students to use fidgets in class and seen an improvement

I do not think the improvement is massive and I am still on the fence but I have decided to run an action research on it.

This is a yarn not a thread because how am I finding the fidgets to do this- crochet them. I made a lot of worry worms last year for daughters friends 3/4🧶
