Most ETFs storing physical metals extract the cost of storage plus their fees from the metal pool & that is why over years the ETF price slips against the physical price of the underlying metals.
I extract data on many dozens of ETFs & you can see that the slippage is huge in value - you can observe it over time.

Consider GLD which when it started = 1/10 ounce.
Gold now $4355
GLD now $398.28
8.5% below Par

If they didn't extract those expenses GLD would still be worth a 10th ounce $ 435.5

Same applies to SLV & most every ETF - it's a disclosed secret few understand & makes the long term holding of these ETFs a highly taxed farce compared to holding physical.
