We joined the Black History Museum of Virginia to commemorate the history of Richmond’s Leigh Street Armory and the men and women who served within its walls and beyond, as America’s only armory built for Black servicemen. This history was recently removed from DoD websites.
When told to stop agitating for freedom, an antebellum poet published a defiant response. Khari Wendell McClelland set this poem to music, updating its second verse & carrying its protest into our present day. The three photos are from @RecTheMonument. https://t.co/8eXpqtryAG
What passes for a slavery museum
In Richmond, Virginia… in the bottom of a train station by the bathrooms, foam boards falling off the wall. Last I heard someone got $11 million dollars, where is it?
This new skating rink and mural by Richmond graffiti great Silly Genius is this latest from our RTM Collaborative Arts Grant program. Check it out at Richmond’s Hotchkiss Community Center and don’t forget to bring your wheels!
For years I’ve been writing about @enrichmond’s takeover of historic Black cemeteries in RVA. The nonprofit has tanked, taking hundreds of thousands of $$$ with it, but there’s more to be said about its duplicity—and the complicity of its gov’t backers.

Turns out when they say wildfires they actually mean only FLOODS caused by wildfires, but you have to find that out after the fact. And it turns out that they don’t think “fear of death” is a valid reason to honor their insurance or refund policies on their website either.
@Airbnb you’ve lost a customer and clearly put money over the health and safety of your customers and lie about what you offer on your website. I’m disgusted by your greed and dishonesty.
I’ve tried working with them to make this right and they not only lie about their insurance but they will hang up on you when you bring up that they say it covers this exact thing. They told me that they get to keep my money for a product they couldn’t deliver.
@airbnb falsely advertises their insurance policy. Our rental was covered in smoke from nearby wildfire, we couldn’t breath, my partner has asthma, her life was at risk, we had to leave as soon as we arrived. We paid for insurance that said it covered wildfires, but they lied.
Tonight we had the honor to join @PetersburgNPS in commemorating the lives of the enslaved community at City Point alongside Museum Curator Emmanuel Dabney and the music and dance of Akoma de Gado. Thanks to all who attended.

"I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits." - Martin Luther King Jr.
This weekend @RecTheMonument projected a “Love Letter” to RVA’s LGBTQ+ community on the West facing outside wall of @thebyrdrva Theatre. Queer people are welcome, celebrated, and loved here. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
