Things felt a little tense at lunch on the jobsite today.

Tommy finally goes, “Gun, when you said $4 gas was the cost of freedom I was with you. Then it hit $5. Then $6.”

Couple guys nodded.

I could tell morale was slipping.

“Boys. What happens when something becomes more valuable?”

Jose goes, “Price goes up?”

“Exactly.”

Silence.

I let that sink in.

“So if gas went from $3 to $6, what does that tell you?”

Tommy looked down at his steel toed work boots.

“Gas is twice as valuable.”

Now we were getting somewhere.

I explained that cheap gas was basically America undervaluing its own freedom and these prices are the market finally correcting.

Tommy goes, “Gun, I never thought about it like that.”

Yeah, Tommy. Most people haven’t.
