Paws well grounded, from roots to leaves, and back again, chattering up and down the world-tree.

If he holds back in the battle,
But in old age he shall have no peace
Though spears have spared his limbs."

@Opiumbrella End of a long hike in the Rockies, near sunset. At a park area, we saw ahead a huge grizzly, tearing at something it was eating. We bushwacked around a lake, over scree, through woods, to avoid it (it knew we were there). Focussed the mind admirably.
@oliverbrown_tel Hmmm, think they've been doing that for quite some time. It's just unusual for the English to notice, esp where Harry Kane is concerned.
@Poppy_yyyyyyyy Okay...just looked them up. Not quite the same--inriggers are both for touring and racing, with sliding seats, usually 2+ or 4+. There are Newfoundland boats that are probably similar (?)--6 seats, fixed (I think).
@rattlecans Both my grams were Scots (one Glasgow, one Fife), so this is familiar, but you are right that the law of hospitality is _very_ old and observed all over. From the Greeks to the mead-halls to...well, almost everywhere. Until recently.
@colwight@SomeCallMeLaz@salltweets@JammersMinde These days...anything is possible. Hey, I'm just an old dyke who likes cargo shorts, so I dunno....let he/she without sin cast the first birkenstock...
@TheKingofKatz I'm horrified by what I've read of it. I am a pedant on historical (and many) things, but I do get that a new take on stories we know can be revealing (ex: N Haynes, MMiller (Circe), the Cdn-Iceland movie of Beowulf with S Skarsgård). But you have to respect the story itself.
@colwight@salltweets@JammersMinde That was my thought--surely, if you want to be convincing or just, you know, not look like an elf or a nisse in a sack, go get a suit made to measure.
@runthinkwrite I think you would have to argue that rules in sport are merely suggestions (or maybe oppressive). Actually, I suspect the conventionalists (if I have my isms correct) might have a go, or the Nietzscheans, or the French...never mind, Belgian fries are better.
Much to agree with here, Čeferin, Tuchel, Rooney.
Rules can be bad (no kidding, women have seen plenty of that), but if you abandon the rules that make sport, you don't have sport.

@HagFeminist Fantastisk. Wanted Denmark to be there, and I'm not a big fan of Haaland in the professional game, but Norway's play has been really excellent, very team-together, and Haaland (and Ødegaard, of course), the keeper, the lot. After yesterday's shitshow by Paraguay, this was great!
