Two-year-old Annelise Camp wandered away from a family gathering on Memorial Day and was found unconscious at the bottom of a hotel swimming pool.
Her father performed CPR and she was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Initially she was very unstable, but now her family sees signs of improvement.
But to obtain further care, the family has had to seek a court injunction to prevent doctors from declaring Annelise “brain dead” and removing her from life support.
I’m glad the family is getting legal advice: the American Academy of Neurology’s brain death guideline is unverified and does NOT comply with US law under the Uniform Determination of Death Act (UDDA).
The UDDA law requires the irreversible cessation of all functions of the entire brain including the brain stem.
But the AAN guideline explicitly allows brain death to be declared in the presence of ongoing brain function.
Annelise is a critically injured but very much alive little girl. With further treatment she may or may not improve, but being disabled does not make her “as good as dead.”
People diagnosed “brain dead” are neither biologically dead nor dead under the law that defines death.
Living people should not be declared to be dead.

“Hey, even if you believe the BS, look over there! There’s some BS about them that makes me feel better about all my BS.”
@HunterBiden Your mom straight up lied.
No one, and l mean NO ONE believes that your dad “suddenly” lost it during the debate but had been fine before that and was fine again after that. https://t.co/TYN7PMIynP.person.

“Obviously, God wanted 5 more months of me exposing all the failures of our mayor.”
Incredible
@unbridledmd@noahkaufmanmd I should add that the story on the eval is incorrect. When a group of us RNs were called together to ask if we wanted to be vaccinators l said no and then asked, “who is protecting us legally for giving an experimental shot”? Valid question got me in trouble….
@unbridledmd@noahkaufmanmd This was the last evaluation at my place of employment (same place 1989-2022). Never, ever had one single negative comment on an eval until this one. I know l too would have eventually been fired for voicing my opinions if l hadn’t walked away on my own…
