@ProfChrisMJones Same, read it at the beginning of grad school. I think very few scholars would argue that ancient Israelites were aware of patriarchy; that would be an anachronistic angle
The highlighted footnote is telling though.
Methodologically (not theologically), what exactly is a ‘biblical construct’? 🤔
Plus, a terms absence doesn’t mean the concept didn’t exist, e.g. legal terminology for violence against women like rape.
Patriarchy is centered on power (male), while suppressing care & relationality. It is destructive for women, but harms men as well: male violence against other men, higher risk of suicide, reduced relationship quality & lower life expectancy.

@a_grzybowska_w Why choose to eat a meal intravenously just for the nutrients when instead you could be enjoying the texture, scent, and experience of it all?
Born (possibly) on this day in 1483, and died (alas!) on this day in 1520, Raphael. True genius of the renaissance. Here by himself, with a friend, in one of the great renaissance friendship portraits.
@isaacsoon2 I agree that this is the most immediate solution. But what about long term? I’ve been thinking about exploitation and uncompensated labor in academia more generally and I think almost all of it falls under the umbrella of “service.” Can’t the people making admin salaries do it?
Does anyone else have those scholars that you return to often, not necessarily for what they say but how they say it?
And how you feel when you read them?
A poet-scholar is one of my favorite inspirations.
