Most conversations fail long before the first reply.
Not because people disagree,
but because no one is listening for understanding.
Words travel further when they are not trying to win.
@IstrianMario Confirming that it was a surprise this morning here in Visnjan with no water, a main water break connected to the reservoir overnight that should be fixed by 19:00 today hopefully
@nntaleb I had the same experience in Croatia, where there’s a shortage of people to do this kind of work, so they naturally have all the leverage. AI is shifting leverage back to the individual through more self-sufficiency.
@vtchakarova It’s rarely a lack of awareness. Acting early has a cost that’s hard to absorb, so waiting feels safer until it suddenly doesn’t, and by then it’s often too big to pin on anyone.
@AnthropicAI This is pretty neat, but you still have to choose what “right” looks like. What you anchor it to may matter more than the exploration itself, and “right” may not be binary.
Lately the God complex shows up in how much we double down on optimization.
We push everything and everyone into timelines, assuming reality will stay predictable.
Yet that very predictability becomes the weakness.
What are we optimizing for if higher oil prices cause panic?
Haven’t heard much about pump and dump schemes in a long time.
Maybe the mechanics reversed. Private companies get amplified and exit to large public companies instead of individuals.
Same incentives, similar outcome, just more finesse to keep the machine running.
