Jake Johnson

Chairman, House Oversight Committee

Proudly representing Henderson, Polk, Rutherford &McDowell counties in the NC House of Representatives.

[Jake Johnson @RepJakeJohnson]

Thank you to the @NCPBA for your endorsement of our reelection campaign! It has been an honor to work with your members across the state on common sense criminal justice reform that protects law enforcement and makes our communities safer. I look forward to the continued partnership! #ncpol

🚨BREAKING🚨

NC House Republicans just PASSED the Relief at the Pump Act, suspending state fuel taxes.

Lower prices at the pump and more money in your pocket is a HUGE win for North Carolinians.

[Speaker Destin Hall @ncspeakerhall]

Today, @SenatorBerger and I called the NC General Assembly back to Raleigh this Wednesday at noon so we can tackle rising fuel prices and deliver real relief for North Carolina families, farmers, and businesses.

[Jake Johnson @RepJakeJohnson]

This weekend, I joined my colleagues in requesting a special session to address the gas tax. As a result of good fiscal policy by @NCHouseGOP, we are in a position to backfill revenue loss with money we have saved in a fiscally responsible way. People are feeling the pressures of gas prices across our state and we need to step up to the plate. #ncpol

[Speaker Destin Hall @ncspeakerhall]

Rising fuel costs are squeezing North Carolina families’ pocketbooks and creating challenges for farmers across the state.

North Carolinians can’t afford to wait.

Today, @SenatorBerger and I are calling for a special session of the General Assembly to provide immediate relief at the pump.

More details forthcoming.

Great event in @LakeLure as we celebrated the 100th Birthday of the Dam. It was great to see @RepTimMooreNC & community leaders from across the state coming together to celebrate this milestone. We learned about the history of the dam, how it withstood Helene and what it means to the success of our region. Here is to 100 more!🥳

[Jake Johnson @RepJakeJohnson]

If we do not address blatant institutional & operational failures, I fear history will repeat itself. @NCHouseGovOps uncovered the Cooper Administration lost 300 MILLION of your NC taxpayer dollars that led to 1000+ victims remaining in hotels 6+ years. That is unacceptable! #ncpol #ncgop #NCSEN

[Michael Whatley @WhatleyNC]

Roy Cooper was nowhere to be found as Hurricane Helene barreled into North Carolina. Instead of being on the ground, he was at a climate change gala in New York. After the storm, he completely mismanaged the state’s response to the devastation.

We need leaders who will stand up for NC, not abandon our communities when they need us most.

[Jake Johnson @RepJakeJohnson]

Two years ago, WNC was devastated by Hurricane Helene. During the most critical time of response when lives were at stake and local leaders in the community needed help, the Biden and Cooper Administrations were nowhere to be found. If we cannot admit the mistakes that were made, we are doing a disservice to future generations and victims.
We are a long way from back to normal, but I am extremely grateful for those who showed up to put in the work, and still do day in and day out. https://t.co/vYQ5NB3psu

[NC House Press @nchousepress]

Happy Dolly Day!

On this “9 to 5” day, @ErinforNC and the House honored Dolly Parton’s incredible legacy of promoting childhood literacy and putting books in the hands of kids across North Carolina.

[Jake Johnson @RepJakeJohnson]

“I think it is laughable if Roy Cooper even tries to make hurricane recovery an issue in this campaign after how badly he fumbled not only Helene, but eastern North Carolina,” Johnson said. “He is trying to run from anything that reminds anyone of how bad he has handled natural disasters in this state.” #ncpol #ncgop
Thank you @WhatleyNC & Sen. @TedBuddNC for showing up and helping those who needed it most.

[Matthew Foldi @MatthewFoldi]

NEW @DC_Reporter:

@WhatleyNC has never held elected office before -- but as a private citizen, he helped steer billions of dollars to Western North Carolina

I spoke with local leaders about how Whatley worked with @realDonaldTrump to deliver for them, and how #NCGOV Roy Cooper was completely MIA

Thank you to the @NCChamber
for recognizing the work done and the progress made this session when it comes to promoting free enterprise, lower taxes and a business friendly climate in NC! #ncpol

[NC House Republicans @NCHouseGOP]

NEW AD 📺: @ChiefPenland's job is to run towards the chaos. He did that during Hurricane Helene.

But not politician Lindsey Prather. She voted against WNC's recovery funding & followed her party bosses.

She abandoned her people.

Anthony Penland won't leave you behind. #ncpol

[Destin Hall @DestinHall]

It was great to see such a strong turnout yesterday in support of Chelsea Walsh. An excellent kickoff to the campaign and a great start to the road ahead!

[Jake Johnson @RepJakeJohnson]

We would like to extend a huge thank you to newly reappointed @fema Administrator @FEMA_Cam for taking the time to personally come to the district and explain their plans to improve operations at the department and speed up recovery efforts. Very grateful to @WhatleyNC for keeping the pressure on federal agencies to not forget about Western North Carolina! #ncpol

House Republicans FOUGHT for higher teacher pay, and we delivered.

Educators back in the classroom this week receive:

✅ 8% average pay raise—highest in decades
✅ Boosted starting teacher pay

Our teachers work hard for NC. They deserve a bigger paycheck, and that’s exactly what they’re getting.

@RepJakeJohnson breaking down what responsible energy policy looks like at the Rainey Center's Energize America 2030 NC State Policy Lab. More power on the grid drives supply up and cost down. That's not a slogan, that's how you actually protect ratepayers.

Today, I requested transparency from the Division of Marine Fisheries. North Carolinians deserve accountability for how our public fisheries are being managed.

Nearly 30 years after the Fisheries Reform Act was passed to rebuild and sustain our coastal fisheries, many of those goals remain unmet. Now, the Committee is demanding detailed, itemized breakdowns of all expenditures related to the Division of Marine Fisheries' activities, including how taxpayer and license dollars are spent, what fisheries data programs are accomplishing or failing to accomplish, and whether Marine Patrol has the resources and enforcement activity needed to protect our public resources.

This is an important step toward answering a basic question: Is North Carolina’s public getting results for the money, time and resources being invested in fisheries management?
North Carolina’s fisheries belong to the public. The public deserves transparency, accountability and management that produces healthier fisheries. The Division of Marine Fisheries has one month to provide this information. #ncpol
