Last week, I gave my final speech as a member of Congress.
I left with an appreciation for the work that can be done to improve people’s lives and a word of caution for my colleagues.
To the over 700,000 veterans in North Carolina:
You know what service is like—you know what it takes, what it asks of us, and what it leaves with us. It’s something we carry, even when the uniform comes off.
Thank you. May we all seek to deserve your sacrifice.
One year ago, the world watched the heinous terrorist attack in Israel killing 1,200 people. We grieve with the loved ones of the innocent lives cut short.
We will continue to push for the safe release of the hostages and a lasting peace.
Last night, NC’s full Congressional delegation came together to urge President Biden to quickly approve the Governor’s request for a major disaster declaration. We hope it is expeditiously granted and we’ll continue to work on a bipartisan basis to help WNC recover and rebuild.
CharMeckALERT: Morning Update: Things might get worse before they get better. Residents near shorelines need to STAY ALERT to changing conditions. Flood waters will rise, even without rain.
Water will continue to rise rapidly causing flooding along the shorelines of lakes and rivers throughout the day. Large amounts of rainwater are moving through the Catawba River System from Lake Norman to Lake Wylie through Mountain Island Lake and the Catawba River.
A shelter is open at Tuckaseegee Rec Center at 4820 Tuckaseegee Road, Charlotte, NC. For more information see https://t.co/55WiZNhcl9
Today, we celebrate Labor Day to honor working Americans.
Whether it’s the PRO Act, training programs, or paid leave, we’ll continue to work to ensure that workers have the voice they deserve and can provide for their families.

Belmont Mayor Richard Turner was a dedicated community leader with over a decade of service from the Parks and Recreation board to the highest levels of City Hall.
Marisa and I extend our condolences to his wife, Marie, his friends and colleagues, and the residents of Belmont.
CMPD K-9 Officer Brent Simpson passed away today from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officer Simpson was a graduate of the 148th Recruit Class and served with CMPD since 2006. Most recently, Officer Simpson was assigned to the K-9 unit and faithfully served alongside his K-9 partner, Levi, for six years. Prior to joining CMPD, Officer Simpson served in the U.S. Navy as an Operation Specialist with the Military Police for four years.
His life and service will never be forgotten. Please say a prayer for Officer Simpson's loved ones and fellow officers during this difficult time.
Nine years ago, the Supreme Court affirmed that same-sex couples have a fundamental right to marriage.
No matter who you are or who you love, you deserve to be welcomed and accepted.
We will continue to work towards equality and stand up for LGBTQ+ rights.
On #EqualityDay, we celebrate the Supreme Court's landmark decisions in Lawrence, Windsor, and Obergefell.
As we celebrate the strides towards equality we've already made, let these SCOTUS decisions inspire us as we continue to fight for full equality for the LGBTQI+ community.
A new passport agency will be opening in Charlotte! It will offer in-person and emergency services.
This is a big win from legislation we passed to get services to cities more than a 5-hour drive to an existing passport agency (the nearest agency to us right now is in Atlanta).
With demand for passport services on the rise, we plan to add six new passport agencies across the country to bring urgent passport services closer to Americans’ homes. Follow @TravelGov for passport updates and visit https://t.co/QyrhLLb6LD to apply or renew.
Juneteenth marks a celebration of freedom for enslaved Black Americans, but also an opportunity to reflect on our continued march for racial equality.
Today, let us renew our commitment to a more just nation.
This Juneteenth, we honor the strength and resilience of the African American community, reflect on our history, and renew our commitment to building a more just and equitable Charlotte for all. Together, let us celebrate freedom, heritage, and the ongoing work for racial justice
Today, we recognize the service members that gave their lives to protect our country and what it stands for.
May we all seek to deserve their sacrifice.
Proud that my bipartisan bill to expand parental leave in the Coast Guard Reserve was included in the passage of the Coast Guard Authorization Act.
We need to support all of our service members and allow new parents to take parental leave.
Reservists in the Coast Guard get less parental leave than their counterparts in the other armed forces.
But a Coast Guard reauthorization bill that the House passed earlier this week would change that.

Thank you to Congressman Jeff Jackson who helped the Gastonia Police Department secure a $963,000 federal grant to build our real time crime center which will provide technology to help us better police the city and county for crime and for emergency weather situations.
Gaston County has declared a state of emergency because of the storm and emergency responders are working hard to clear roads of power lines, tree limbs and provide aid.
Follow @GastonCountyGov and @GPDNC for regular updates and please use caution if travel is necessary.
The Aberdeen bridge over I-85 is completely blocked. Barricades are up at Remount and Aberdeen to prevent cars from crossing the bridge. Please avoid the area. It’s a large tree that took down power lines.
On behalf of @RepAdams, I led the NC Delegation in a moment of silence to honor the four law enforcement officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice, the four officers who were injured, and the first responders who answered the call.
