Heygate & Aylesbury estates: £100m spent so far demolishing just half of the 4000 homes. Not one council house will be built on either redeveloped estate.
Outstanding example of what @UKLabour in power can achieve.
There is a Westminster Council Elderly care scandal brewing. After a sepsise death district nurses' handling of preasure ulcers, medical attendence and communication between Elderly home care services need to be investigated! It's a problem known for years. But enough is enough!
This is long overdue. Westminster Council used social value creation assessments years ago when trying to argue cases to closedown community facilities whilst cheating itself out of such and other values with commercial contractors using value for money as the decisive factor.
Delighted that Westminster Council has approved unanimously its support for social value in procurement & crucially agreed to recommend to cabinet that the council will go for @LivingWageUK accreditation so that in practice all contractors should be paid the London Living Wage
Great imediate step. But central Gov must stop and reverse massive cuts across a range of relevant areas which are the real reasons behind our crumbling society.
Together with @metpoliceuk, our officers are also carrying out highly visible weapon sweeps across the city - sending a clear signal that knives have no place on our streets
Council-owned development company claims it's not financially viable to build affordable housing on public land. This story sums up so much of what's wrong in the housing system https://t.co/XrbGweQsq5
The @FT on 'Build to Rent'. We argued #LondonPlan wrong to create whole new use class (in effect) for what could become a serious racket https://t.co/xyCL4om7yX
The #LondonPlan promises a lot for middle- & up-market housing needs but very little low-rent which is where the backlog of need lies. Discriminatory, but Mayor failed to explore that so Plan may not be lawful. https://t.co/ckLLOMICTr
@michaellondonsf@London_Forum@justspace7 So tired of hearing the excuse for this being "oh that's just a detail, but think how prices will fall if we just build more and more"
The utter inadequacy of the #LondonPlan equalities analysis is confirmed by statements submitted since the inspectors ordered the publication of the detailed workings https://t.co/yNLm2P8Ozg This is very serious stuff.
@tomcopley, many People love dogs. Promoting ownership should be underpinned by providing the needed additional public greenspaces they and owners need for exercise and relief. It's becoming an issue in areas where lots of new flats with insuffizient greenspaces are built.
This 💯.
You often need permission from the freeholder even if you *own* the flat.
Yet another example of pets being an instant blanket ban, when a short train of thought later would tell you that the vast majority of the time, they are no problem at all/a valued benefit. 🐶
There is clear evidence that Social Housing is what is needed, and neglected overcrowding in existing Homes needs to be considered too. Social Housing delivery needs to go up.
Should the #LondonPlan target be increased to get more "affordable? We and LTF arguing quite the reverse: the super-high housing targets drive all the damaging aspects of the whole Plan.
Our #LondonPlan blog post from yesterday on housing targets is up at https://t.co/JcoU3sBCHw Please add corrections if you were there. Angels; pinheads.
Inspiring community 'summit' on Barking Riverside / Thames Ward last night with huge input from secondary school students https://t.co/R56ckcf3gj We hope to help them democratise this gigantic "opportunity area" Such energy.
Westminster Council needs to be clear whether it is elected to protect and further the interests of its residents or keep ignoring their basic needs like it did for decades on housing & air quality. You can't keep building and at the same time reduce needed access to green spaces
The Holocaust Memorial Foundation has now put in their planning application. It has not yet been verified so we cannot see it online. When it is we will put some bullet points on the website to help with responses.
In other news, my Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Bill just passed the Lords Committee stage and should complete its passage through Parliament next Wednesday. Which is nice.
Today @CityWestminster is hosting a review of the Homelessness, Employment & Learning Project (HELP) which supports residents who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. It’s a great opportunity to share best practice and experience with experts from across the world.
