This is what it’s like going into a commission only CRE job at age 22, when your friends are all taking salary jobs
Then leaving a big name shop to start up a CRE brokerage company at age 42 when all brokers tend to stay where they are
Still amazed I had the chutzpah to do both
@johnarnold Texas is fantastic at luring companies here with our tax attitude + business first ‘tude but the real pride come from the incredible start-up spirit that has evolved, especially in the 21st century
There’s just so much overall optimism here, it’s contagious
Long (urban) Texas
@runaway_vol Fugly. I love the Audi brand, from the way it drives to the interior finishes. My old RS7 was a fantastic, badass car…but other than the Etron GT, Audi has shit the bed on design this decade.
Elon pulled the trigger, bought the site in Grimes County for his giant #terafab factory
It’s just too far out into the country to claim as a victory for Houston - this is really a win for Aggieland, that should soon see a huge growth trend east of town to meet these new jobs
@HTX_Son@solongfarewells@evan7257 Agreed, and certainly their property tax carry is reduced without an improvement
If the fast train fails (a shame) this is an excellent site to develop a multi phase scale mid rise MF housing community
Access to 3 freeways, near galleria but at a discounted rent, etc
So up until yesterday, if you google “Jason Gaines Houston” it would come back with normal feedback about me as a CRE broker and such
Now bc of this sicko, my Google search is forever tarnished. He’s even my exact age. Lawdy…
@nomorecolonies Truly sux. Until now I only knew of one other person with my name, he’s a jazz musician from New Orleans
What are the odds it’s a guy who lives in my town and is a pedohile?? Ugh
@tex_alt11847 He needed an inexpensive “go” site with (rare) in place utility infrastructure. That’s why he went high and low to ID this random spot in an economic no man’s land like Grimes county.
He was just not going to find any of these ideal wants in the Houston (or Austin) urban MSA.
@tex_alt11847 I think that’s a pretty big overstatement
1) Houston is an inherent part of his existence as the home of NASA space program
2) he’s set up in Texas for life now, and Houston has the highest concentration of in state engineering talent
3) we are aligned with his pro biz values
@KennethRWebster Big time. It would be one thing if it was a typical crime, even robbery or assault…but KIDS?!?!? This has a very real chance of a mix up in the future where somebody mistakes me for a sicko
@evan7257 Oof is right. Somebody someday for some reason may google my name, see these heinous accusations, and try and pin that BS on me
It’s really a bad deal for me
@solongfarewells@evan7257 IF there’s a current plan. Who even knows where the high speed rail project is these days. I’m not even clear why the owners tore down NW Mall with this project so up in the air
@t_five_osu@evan7257 The site is unique and why they bought it. It’s a former electric plant location, with an adjacent reservoir for water use
I don’t know the details, but my guess is they will have no problem self generating power and water with these features
@markverrett Aggie Freeway stops at 105 in Navasota area. It’s a pretty good distance up to this site. Unless TX gets all over it with this news, I don’t see that freeway going up any further north for 10+ years
There’s a state FM 1486 that spurs due north off 249 that goes further that way
@evan7257 It’s a really long distance from the outer exurbs of town in Magnolia up to that area of Texas
As I say, I think it will have a profound impact on College Station, which is also guilty of major sprawl for a mid sized college town. I could see it yielding 50,000 more people there
