Compatibility and complementarity are not the same thing.
Compatibility is about sharing the things that really matter: your values, your beliefs, your view of family, and the kind of life you want to build.
Complementarity is different. It means being with someone who brings qualities you don't have yourself.
The problem is that people tend to look for too much similarity: the same interests, tastes, or opinions. In other words, they look for themselves.
But a good match isn't someone who mirrors you. It's someone who shares your deepest values while being different enough to balance you, challenge you, and complete you.
What you should be looking for is enough compatibility and lots of complementarity.
Been reading about Roger Penrose. Guy sent me down another rabbit hole.
Black holes, quantum mechanics, consciousness, what happened before the Big Bang. Some of his ideas are pretty wild.
Maybe he’s right, maybe he’s wrong. I just like people who aren’t afraid to ask big questions.
Hope you had a happy 95th birthday!
Love this. I’m definitely not a doctor, but you sent me down a rabbit hole on synapses and Purkinje cells lol. Pretty wild how repetition can strengthen some connections and weaken others. Makes you wonder how much the little things we do every day actually shape us. Appreciate you sharing stuff like this. Super duper cool.
@arthurbrooks Been thinking about this a lot. AI can do some incredible things. I just hope we don’t get so caught up in what we can build that we forget to ask why we’re building it. We can’t lose the humanity.
How to reset your attention and focus:
"If you're trying to study or you're at work and you're having a really hard time concentrating, I would recommend not just trying to power through."
"Anytime you're having trouble concentrating, I would recommend that you take some kind of break with nature."
"Even simulated nature like listening to nature sounds, watching a nature video, looking at nature pictures can be beneficial."
"A 20-minute walk in nature produced attention benefits for kids with ADHD that were similar to a dose of Ritalin."
"Overall you might want to get about 2 hours a week in nature."

@FaceTheNation@ClementDelangue The question isn’t whether AI will become more capable. It will. The real question is whether our institutions, incentives, and wisdom can keep pace.
