@matt_e_cochran According to the Pharisees Jesus was sowing discord. If our Synod does something that we believe is not in line with the Word of God, it is our duty to talk about it.

This all smells of the "go along to get along" idea that happened after Seminex. (As I understand it).

@matt_e_cochran My long-standing sin has been pornography, the best construction is for me to talk about it so that others may hear of the hope in Christ. Not avoid it because of the shame that happens. If a Pastor publicly sins, we should talk about how it to avoid it happening again.

@matt_e_cochran It's almost humorous how we talk about the 8th commandment. If a pastor quit on a congregation, the best construction is to say "that pastor quit on that congregation" not lie about it. I thought we were freed from sin, not ashamed of talking about it and growing from it.

The main issue us Lutherans Face with our marketing is that we often frame our destinctives wrong

We don't sell them by how they make your life awsome

We just talk about them insofar as we're mad at evangelicals for not believing them

A large chunk of the LCMS is viscerally repulsed by the thought of just doing the service straight out of the hymnal. And I would be more inclined to accept the notion that they are still doctrinally Lutheran if the services they wrote to replace the hymnal service didn’t always gut the doctrine from our liturgy and if they ever actually came to Confessions studies or talked about the Confessions at pastors conferences or if they used confessional language when talking theology instead of using the same empty, emotive jargon of the evangelical world.

But they don’t do any of those things. And so I’m not especially convinced that they actually are doctrinally Lutheran.

Every “creative” liturgy I’ve ever encountered is textually and musically worse than what we have in our hymnals.

Every “creative” confession and absolution I’ve heard is weaker in both law sternness and gospel sweetness than what is in our hymnals. Some have been so weak that we could fairly charge those who wrote them with false doctrine.

And in my 18 years as a pastor, unless they are appealing to “ceremonies need not be the same everywhere” I have never heard a strongly pro-contemporary worship pastor quote the Lutheran Confessions.

Never. Not once. Not a single time.

If people feel deeply about the issues across the world send a Missionary to bring the Word and Sacraments to them.

This is lowkey my problem with streaming the Divine service. Specifically the Service of the Sacrament and Confession/Absolution.
