It was a real honour to watch @Rhiannon_Barrow graduate yesterday. It wasn't always easy (trying to cure brain cancer is tough, & through COVID to boot!) but she worked hard & showed great problem-solving ability & resilience. A PhD well earned. Congratulations Dr Barrow 👏 🙌👩🎓
@Rhiannon_Barrow wrote a report,
About experiments focused on TauT
When asked to re-hash it,
She totally smashed it,
So now she's a Dr - of course!
Our amazing @BRUKresearch funded PhD student @Rhiannon_Barrow has passed her viva with flying colours
I spoke about our research at a @YorkshireBTC event in 2019. Afterwards, a GBM patient @jn_wilkinson, who could code but knew no biology, asked if he could help. He worked with us until he passed in May 2020. Today we published his & @Rhiannon_Barrow's work, which we use daily.
State-of-the-art experimental models need state-of-the-art analysis techniques. Out today in JBM: 'SpheroidAnalyseR—an online platform for analyzing data from 3D spheroids or organoids grown in 96-well plates' @GliomaGenomics@Rhiannon_Barrow@LucyFStead https://t.co/QwxJRs3t6v
❗️Another week, another PhD student has come to my office in tears as they can’t afford to live in London on £18k. And this is before the price cap increase. @UKRI_News this time - can I ask what you are doing to support the next-generation so there is a next-generation?! Pls RT
LOOK 👀 a special research topic in @FrontCellDevBio on GLIOMA: From Genetic to Cellular Heterogeneity 🧠🧬There's so much exciting research in this area right now. Submit your abstract by 24th Sept✏️ & manuscript by 23rd Nov🖊️More info here 👉

#BrainTumourAwarenessMonth@Rhiannon_Barrow was awarded a Brain Research UK PhD studentship in 2018 to pursue research into glioblastoma, GBM, the most common primary brain cancer in adults. Only a quarter of patients diagnosed with GBM survive more than a year from diagnosis.
🧠🧠 Planning to do a PhD in neuro-oncology, brain/spinal cord injury/repair or headache/facial pain? 🧠🧠
Find out how to apply for one of our PhD studentships - but be quick - deadline is 15th November! https://t.co/spmZEnbecu
One of our inspiring fund recipients @Rhiannon_Barrow is taking on Tough Mudder this weekend to raise money for Brain Research UK. Good luck Rhiannon - if anyone would like to support her, you can find her Just Giving page here https://t.co/fKh27OPkN6
Me and @freya_leif are doing the @ToughMudder 10 mile obstacle course on July 31st to raise money for @BRUKresearch! If you are able to donate we would really appreciate it! https://t.co/kZX12gFUk8
It's #WorldBrainTumourDay & so it's worth repeating that brain tumours kill more children & adults under 40's than any other cancer, yet receive only 2% of our national cancer research spend. Only 12% will make it to 5 years. We really must do better. https://t.co/NV7yGXyNZv
