My father knew Juan Móricz and Stanley Hall and was involved with the whole Cueva de los Tayos affair. Móricz claimed he had himself seen the metal library. He made it up in order to gain credibility to fund the expedition. We know this because Petronio Jaramillo, a captain in the army stationed in a jungle post near the cave was the one that told him about the cave. He confessed that he himself had not seen the cave but was told of it by a Shuar indian. And so it goes.

I call it the Móricz Syndrome. Same thing happening with Elizondo. People pretending to have been witness to things in order to lend credibility to the story.
