"if you refuse to work, if you are taking taxpayers for a ride – we will take your benefits away"
Government really cranking up the divisive rhetoric here - the reality is that the vast majority of people want to work & are being let down by poor support

My comment on the govt's new Back to Work Plan:

There's welcome new measures here, but it risks being outweighed by the nasty, divisive and unnecessary rhetoric about 'coasters' who 'take taxpayers for a ride'. Completely counterproductive.

NEW 🚨 | 1 in 10 childcare workers live in poverty.
We're launching a campaign to change this.
We urgently need to hear from childcare workers.
Pass it on.
#MyMaskMyVote Not allowed to vote once inside, despite bringing ID & video of me putting on mask, as no options for reasonable adjustments for those who are #immunosuppressed. Recorded as turned away with reason: no guidance for those with Disability.
One of most important points in great piece by @patrickjbutler “It’s a passive system. They never contact you and say: ‘We notice you are claiming benefit A, did you know you are therefore also eligible for benefits B and C?’ They leave it to you to find out.”

One oddity of the Truss govt is its sheer randomness. "We don't want to tell people what to do": we want to criminalize cannabis. "We're pro-growth": we're banning solar farms. It's policy-making by tombola.
So we’ve blown the budget to deliver huge tax cuts. Who benefits? The specific tax cuts confirmed yesterday are very top heavy - half goes to the top 5%, which isn’t surprising when someone earning £1m gets a £55k tax cut
Stamp duty is a bad tax. You’d ideally abolish it and replace with a progressive annual property value tax/rebanded council tax. This isn’t controversial.
We're told the pandemic is over. It's not & now we have a pandemic of gaslighting as well. It comes at us from all sides. The message is we're not part of this new normal. Meanwhile everyone is at risk of repeated infection & long Covid. But they clearly don't care!
The state pension is the main component of welfare spending. So these candidates for Prime Minister are blaming our pensioners...#unbelievable The politics of #blame#division and #hate must stop. Our social security system should be like our #NHS there for all of us in old age..
If a Labour Prime Minister and Labour Chancellor were on holiday during an economic crisis like this the Daily Mail, Telegraph, Express, Sun et al would have helicopters with cameras over their vacation homes.
