It was 19 years ago today, I told my wife to call an ambulance and I locked myself in the laundry room and put a gun to my head. (Pictured Below) I was tired of being an alcoholic.

I was tired of the shame and humiliation.
Although I didn't want my daughters to grow up without a father, I was desperate to end the misery right then and there. I didn't not want to live another day as a drunk.

The last thing I remember was yelling out to Jesus to, “Help Me!”
then when I woke up, I was in the hospital.

There was a very nice black woman there taking care of me. I remember telling her, “I'm a drunk.”
She looked me straight in the eyes and said, “No you're not!” I began to sob and said, “Ma'am, would you pray for me?”

She said, “Yes.” She held my hand and raised her other hand in the air and began pleading my case before almighty God, in front of everyone, and this lady was loud, and spoke with authority.

The next thing I remembered after that was being in a room full of different people I didn't recognize.

I kept looking around for the lady who prayed for me. I wanted to thank her. Eventually, I asked someone, “Where is that black lady who was taking care of me? I want to thank her.”

They all looked at me strangely and said, “We don't know who you are talking about, we don't have anyone matching that description in this unit.”

I don't know who she was, and I never saw her again, but I can tell you I was instantly delivered because I've never had a single drop of alcohol since that night!

So, yeah, today I celebrate 19 years of sobriety. I owe all the praise and glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
