@MarkJCarney Dear PM. We need Nuclear Energy. Push for that across Canada. NE is far more than electricity. Visit Bruce and Terrestrial Energy. Industrial processes are clean with NE. I.E. desalination to provide clean water & electricity. Diablo does it in US. Replace diesel in remote cold.
@MarkJCarney Dear Prime Minister,
I support you and want to see you win. I worry about your monotone delivery. I know you’re just getting your footing and I would rather have monotone than fake. Ray Charles taught me that you gotta sing it like you believe it. He knew how to deliver.
1/ Energy, industry, and sovereignty are inseparable. If Europe wants to be a truly independent pole in an emerging multipolar world, it must reindustrialize—not deindustrialize. That starts with reversing nuclear phaseouts. 🧵
Is anyone else frustrated by the obligatory statement along the lines of "there are no operational small modular reactors in the U.S." in all articles that mention SMR's?
What is it supposed to signify, given the historical and current existence of reactors that are/were small and modular?
There are no scientific or technical hurdles to overcome. SMRs are at least as real and available as long duration storage or enhanced geothermal.
@frankbaylis China strategically monopolizes rare earths. They apparently have slave labour refining the metals used in motors, aircraft, cellphones, weapons. The US is at risk of being denied access to them. That’s why Trump wants Greenland, Canada and now Ukraine.
@frankbaylis Also Carny wanted to distance himself from those words. Please join Bluesky. You need as much circulation as possible. Support for Alberta is also strategic right now. And guess what. Minerals! Rare Earths are worth investing in as Trump so clearly needs them for weapons.
I'm at Brokdorf nuclear plant. Just came out from a visit to the reactor.
It's still in perfect shape.
We could get it turned back on by the end of 2026 if we started today.
Nothing in Europe can compete with the low cost of turning this plant back on.
It's more power than France just announced for AI, 1.4 GW vs 1 GW, much cheaper than French power, and could run until the end of the century.
@DavidLund6@Dr_Keefer Granted; nuclear needs to be built faster and cheaper is always nice. But we know nuclear works and is more eco friendly (less mining) than wind+solar+batts. On the other hand there are a bunch of problems with renewables that are desperately seeking solutions (e.g., G-PST).
“Let me say this once and for all: As an environmentalist, the debate is over,”
Trudeau told the summit delegates.
“Large-scale nuclear reactors must be part of the solution for the future because if we’re not willing to embrace nuclear now then coal-powered AI from other parts of the world will shape the coming decades for the worse.”
“It’s significant and it’s definitely great to hear,” Keefer said, adding that there has been a turnaround in policy from the ruling Liberals in the past three or four years, thanks in part to the advocacy work by the Canadians for Nuclear Energy organization and their allies.
“We’ve worked very hard for this moment,” Keefer said. “It has been interesting to see that change in policy.”
The utter stupidity of Trump picking a fight with China, threatening them mind-numbingly asinine tariffs — which the American people will end up paying for — has just spectacularly backfired. 😳👇
