For those heralding the protection of women's sports in Trump's EO, he has taken substantive efforts to dismantle Title IX in his 1st & 2nd terms, including rolling back Biden administration guidance that would have required proportionality in revenue sharing
I’ve spent my entire life focusing on the success and well being of student athletes. Their success in both sports and academics is paramount. I have no problem with Athletes making money and I have had that stance for many years.
But what we have been dealing with the last few years is harmful not only to their total success but also the longevity of College Sports as we know it. Yesterday, President Trump took bold action to preserve and protect Collegiate Athletics. I urge Congress to pass bipartisan legislation and SAVE COLLEGE SPORTS!
Here's a definition of fair market value...
The monetary consideration that, in an open and unrestricted market, a prudent and informed buyer would pay to a prudent and informed seller.
Donald Trump's 10-page executive order has been obtained by @YahooSports.
Here are some key portions prohibiting "fraudulent NIL" and agencies that pay NIL above "fair market value." Many of these terms are lifted from the House settlement.
College athletes don’t need to be limited to 1 transfer and 1 transfer only…. Just make whatever contract they sign 100% enforceable. 1, 2, 3, 4 year deal. Whatever it is when they put pen to paper.
“I want always for our team to handle both moments the exact same way. You have to be gracious in your losing and I’ve never wanted to be anything other than that and treat people with respect,” Geno Auriemma
Great to see @POTUS taking action to set a vision for reforming college sports.
All the items in the EO are on point.
Now, Congress needs to step up and codify these reforms.
Look, I know that you really dont like it when minorities get paid and have some power, but you know we're at war and in the midst of a shutdown, right Ted?
College sports are a mess. The President has outlined a positive vision for fixing the chaos and is calling on Congress to act swiftly and solve this problem once and for all.
The stakes are high. I will continue to negotiate a bipartisan deal that we can proudly put on POTUS's desk that brings stability, restores competitive balance, and preserves women’s and non-revenue scholarship opportunities. https://t.co/ucqdbguIwl
NCAA President Charlie Baker Statement:
“The NCAA has modernized college sports to deliver more benefits for student-athletes, and the Executive Order reinforces many of our mandatory protections – including guaranteed health care coverage, mental health services, and scholarship protections. This action is a significant step forward, and we appreciate the Administration’s interest and attention to these issues. Stabilizing college athletics for student-athletes still requires a permanent, bipartisan federal legislative solution, so we look forward to continuing to work alongside the Administration and Congress to enact targeted legislation with the support of student-athlete leaders from all three divisions.”
This will be enjoined. 10th amendment claims from state AGs (and shouldn't be limited to just Dem states), violation of the House settlement (which the NCAA is a party to), & individual claims from athletes whose rights are violated.
The EO’s exact language on limiting transfers (1-time rule) may set the stage for a chaotic environment next week where thousands of bball players - some whom have already transferred - prepare to enter the portal.
Schools risk losing federal funding if they violate the order.
From Exhibit D of the farcical "CBA" from AO. They are not in this to do what's right by the athletes. Hopefully, them saying the quiet part out loud finally dispels any notion to the contrary.
Here's the part where Val Ackerman is either: 1. Not very smart, or 2. obfuscating the truth.
The NBA's system recognizes the athletes as employees, and they have a union that represents them to carefully negotiate these very rules on their behalf.
🚨 BREAKING: The @NCAA will start selling data from its championship events to sportsbooks around the country, part of an expanded partnership between the governing body and @GeniusSports.

Am I glad that Wilken put the #House settlement on pause? Yes.
Do I also think it's for the lamest reason, when considering the extent to which future college athletes – some of whom are currently 8 years old – are getting screwed? Also, yes.
Can't wait for the tortious interference cases to start piling in.
Also, it's not going to be especially useful to try to hide in DE when they'll be availing themselves through oversight and interference with NIL deals all across the country.
SCOOP: There's another college sports-related LLC registered in Delaware!
But this one–College Sports Commission, LLC–is the new enforcement entity that will oversee House-era athlete NIL deals. w/ @novy_williams for @Sportico 👇

This used to be the URL for a story on the @DeptofDefense website about Jackie Robinson's time in the Army. The story has been removed. The ghouls who did this should be ashamed. Jackie Robinson was the embodiment of an American hero. Fix this now. https://t.co/rEpZFUbJ8h
What horseshit from @DeptofDefense that they "mistakenly" deleted pages on the Navajo Code Talkers, black Medal of Honor recipients, Jackie Robinson, and more. They labeled them DEI and deleted them. Then got caught and now they are scrambling. Nobody changes a URL by mistake. Constant lies.
