Accelerating Open Innovation: Eigen Labs ∞ Rio Network
Eigen Labs is excited to announce the acquisition of the @RioRestaking team to accelerate our mission of creating an open, verifiable cloud.
The Rio team has a combined 75+ years of crypto experience and a proven track record of scaling products, growing communities, and developing institutional infrastructure. This industry experience is critical as Eigen Labs continues to evolve from research to growth.
To be clear, Eigen Labs is not building a Liquid Restaking Token (LRT). Instead, the code and intellectual property from Rio Network is separately being purchased by the @eigenfoundation and will be open sourced as a reference implementation in the @eigencloud ecosystem to better support new and developing LRTs. The Rio team is joining Eigen Labs and will be focused on supercharging the EigenLayer ecosystem along with the rest of the Eigen Labs team.
Join us in welcoming Rio to Eigen Labs! Together, we are empowering the future of open innovation!
@bcmakes is one of, if not the most knowledgable restaking operator in the space (besides maybe the category creators), and we had a blast recording this episode together.
We provide a "kool-aid" free perspective on the state of restaking and where the market is going. Topics covered include:
- Issues with current LRT <> AVS deal structures and how we would improve them
- LRTs vs LSTs
- An exciting future category of "native restaking" use cases that touch Ethereum consensus directly (think out-of-protocol PEPC)
Rio Network's mission is to provide the best access to risk-managed ETH total return. Rio Network executes on this mission by coordinating AVS selection and weighting, operator selection, liquidity and asset mix for restaked deposits, and efficient aggregation of restaking rewards.
And just like with staking, these three veterans will be on the forefront of the industry, partnering with and educating large allocators on how to restake with Rio Network in a secure, risk-managed way.
Why
Luke, Freddie, and Clayton have over a decade of combined experience leading teams across BitGo, Coinbase, and Figment, which custody or manage $100B+ of crypto assets for hundreds of institutional clients including funds, RIAs, family offices, exchanges, and networks.
Why
The RF mandate is to advance the Rio Network, in collaboration with the RioDAO, across it’s key pillars:
1. Security
2. Risk Management
3. Growth
These pillars correspond directly to the Security Council, Risk Management subDAO, and Growth subDAO, respectively, within the RioDAO.
This testnet period has three goals:
1. Battletest security and usability with restakers
2. Onboard, review, and track operators interested in joining future operator sets
3. Provide a development environment for our integration partners
