Strengthening rural livelihoods through Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs)
A team from CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP) visited Janakpur Village and organised a training-cum-demonstration programme on suitable MAPs crops under the CSIR Smart Village Mission.
During the visit, the team interacted with local farmers and the Sarpanch, motivating them to adopt medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation for better economic returns. As part of the preparatory work for plantation, four soil samples were collected from different sites in the village to assess soil fertility and identify the most suitable crops under the mission.
Such initiatives aim to promote scientific farming practices, sustainable cultivation of MAPs, and improved income opportunities for rural communities.

Empowering rural women through skill, science and self-reliance
Under the CSIR SMART Village Mission, CSIR-CIMAP conducted hands-on training on incense stick and fragrance cone making for women of Sawaipura village, Pali, Rajasthan—building a complete value chain from aromatic crop cultivation to value-added product development. The initiative blends traditional knowledge with modern entrepreneurship, enabling women to transform locally grown lemongrass, vetiver, palmarosa and tulsi into sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The enthusiasm and active participation of the women reflect a growing spirit of confidence, independence and enterprise at the grassroots level. Through science-led interventions and community engagement, CSIR-CIMAP continues to strengthen rural economies and advance women-led development.

CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP), Lucknow celebrated National Science Day 2026 with enthusiasm under the theme “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat.” The programme commemorated the discovery of the Raman Effect and highlighted the growing role of women scientists in advancing research, innovation, and nation-building.
Dr. Ritu Trivedi, Scientist ‘G’ at CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI), delivered the National Science Day Lecture on “Cutting-edge Research Leads to Market-driven Innovations,” stressing the need to translate laboratory discoveries into market-ready products, startups, and societal solutions.
A Memorandum of Agreement was signed between CSIR-CIMAP and Dewdrops Wellness Pvt. Ltd. for market seeding of PsoriaCIM cream, strengthening industry-academia collaboration in the herbal sector.
More than 225 students participated in the Open Day programme, gaining insights into medicinal and aromatic plant research. The celebration reflected CSIR-CIMAP’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

बिहार राज्य के सारण, छपरा जनपद के किसानों के लिए सीएसआईआर-सीमैप, लखनऊ में औषधीय, सगंध पौधों की उन्नत खेती, प्रसंस्करण एवं विपणन विषय पर पाँच दिवसीय प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत
कृषि प्रौद्योगिकी प्रबंध अभिकरण (ATMA) सारण, छपरा बिहार द्वारा चयनित किसानों को औषधीय एवं सगंध पौधों व खेती, प्रसंस्करण एवं विपणन तकनीकियों के प्रति जागरूक करने के लिए एक प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम का आयोजन सीएसआईआर-केन्द्रीय औषधीय एवं सगंध पौधा संस्थान (सीएसआईआर-सीमैप), लखनऊ मे आज दिनांक 16.02.2026 को प्रारम्भ किया गया। इस प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम मे सारण, छपरा जनपद, बिहार के 30 प्रतिभागी भाग ले रहे हैं । इस कार्यक्रम को आयोजित करने का मुख्य उद्देश्य यह है कि किसानों को औषधीय एवं सगंध पौधों की खेती के साथ-साथ इनसे बनने वाले उत्पादों की तकनीकी को भी सिखाया जाये ताकि किसानों को सीधा लाभ प्राप्त हो।
कार्यक्रम के उदघाटन सत्र मे एरोमा मिशन के परियोजना समन्वयक एवं वैज्ञानिक-जी डॉ. संजय कुमार ने प्रतिभागियों को संबोधित करते हुये कि सीएसआईआर-सीमैप पिछले 60 वर्षों से औषधीय एवं सगंध पौधों की खेती मे किसानों को प्रोत्साहित कर रहा है, तथा नई-नई कृषि तकनीकी, पौध सामग्री एवं उन्नतशील प्रजातियां किसानों को उपलब्ध करा रहा है। जिसके फलस्वरूप लाखों किसानों को प्रत्यक्ष तथा अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से लाभ पहुंचा है। किसानों द्वारा संस्थान की विकसित उन्नत प्रजातियों एवं तकनीकों को अपनाकर देश को मेंथा तथा नीबूघास के तेल के उत्पादन मे विश्व मे प्रथम स्थान बनाया है। हमे आशा ही नहीं पूर्ण विश्वास है कि आप लोग यहाँ से प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त कर अपने-अपने जिलों के किसानों को औषधीय, सगंध पौधों व फूलों की खेती प्रति जागरूक करेंगे। इस तरह सभी लोग मिल कर कार्य करेंगे तो दूसरे सगंधीय तेलों जैसे खस, पामारोजा व अन्य सगंधीय तेलों मे आत्मनिर्भरता के साथ निर्यात भी कर सकेंगे। उन्होने आगे कहा कि मुझे आशा है कि अगले चार दिनों मे वैज्ञानिकों द्वारा औषधीय एवं सगंध पौधों की खेती, प्राथमिक प्रसंस्करण व विपणन विषय पर विस्तार से जानकारी प्रदान किया जाएगा ।
आज के तकनीकी सत्र मे डॉ. राम सुरेश शर्मा ने संस्थान द्वारा प्रदत्त सेवाओं व गतिविधियों के बारें मे प्रतिभागियों को जानकारी दी। इसके पूर्व मे श्री दीपक कुमार वर्मा द्वारा प्रतिभागियों को विभिन्न सुविधाओं व प्रक्षेत्र भ्रमण कराया गया तथा औषधीय एवं सगंध पौधों की पहचान कराई गई। तत्पश्चात डॉ. राजेश कुमार वर्मा द्वारा खस की उन्नत कृषि क्रियाओं को प्रतिभागियों के साथ साझा की। डॉ. राम सुरेश शर्मा ने तुलसी के उत्पादन की उन्नत कृषि क्रियाओं की जानकारी दी। डॉ. रक्षपाल सिंह ने औषधीय एवं सगंध फसलों की उन्नत जैविक तकनीकी का प्रदर्शन किया। इस अवसर पर सीएसआईआर-सीमैप के डॉ. संजय कुमार, डॉ. आर. के. श्रीवास्तव, डॉ. राम सुरेश शर्मा एवं शोधार्थी इत्यादि उपस्थित रहे।

Inauguration of a Five-Day Training Programme on Advanced Cultivation, Processing and Marketing of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants at CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow for Farmers from Saran (Chapra), district of Bihar
A five-day training program on cultivation, processing, and marketing of medicinal and aromatic plants commenced today (16.02.2026) at CSIR–Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow, for farmers selected by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Saran (Chapra), Bihar. A total of 30 participants from Saran district are attending the program. The main objective of the program is to create awareness among farmers about the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic crops along with technologies related to value addition and product development so that they can obtain direct economic benefits.
During the inaugural session, Aroma Mission Project Coordinator and Scientist-G Dr. Sanjay Kumar addressed the participants and stated that CSIR-CIMAP has been encouraging farmers for more than 60 years to adopt medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation by providing improved varieties, quality planting material, and modern agro-technologies. As a result, millions of farmers have benefited directly and indirectly. Adoption of institute-developed technologies has helped India achieve the top global position in mentha and lemongrass oil production. He expressed confidence that the trainees will disseminate the gained knowledge among farmers in their respective districts and promote crops such as vetiver, palmarosa, and other aromatic plants, thereby strengthening self-reliance and export potential. He further added that during the next four days scientists will provide detailed training on cultivation practices, primary processing, and marketing.
In the technical sessions, Dr. Ram Suresh Sharma briefed participants about the institute’s activities and services. Earlier, Mr. Deepak Kumar Verma conducted a field visit for the participants, introduced them to various facilities, and helped them to identify different medicinal and aromatic plants. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Verma shared improved agronomic practices of vetiver, while Dr. Ram Suresh Sharma explained advanced cultivation techniques of tulsi. Dr. Rakshpal Singh demonstrated improved organic production technologies for medicinal and aromatic crops. Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. R. K. Srivastava, Dr. Ram Suresh Sharma, and research scholars from CSIR-CIMAP participated in the program.

#WATCH | Lucknow, UP: Dr Prabodh Kumar Trivedi, Director of CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), says, "CIMAP has been working for quite some time on how to add value to the flowers offered in temples and provide employment... I once had the opportunity to meet the Chief Minister and discuss this with him... He asked how to use the offered Belpatra leaves. We have a staff member there who conducted a PhD on this. He demonstrated that Bael leaves have strong antioxidant properties and can be used to formulate a lotion. This is how this technology was developed."

He adds, "Most creams are meant solely for moisturising the skin. They lack antioxidant properties; however, since Belpatra leaves were found to possess this property, a lotion was formulated from them. We will now transfer this to a company..."

सी.एस.आई.आर.-केन्द्रीय औषधीय एवं सगंध पौधा संस्थान (सी.एस.आई.आर.-सीमैप), लखनऊ स्थित कैम्पस में दिनांक 30 व 31 जनवरी, 2026 के मध्य किसान मेले का आयोजन किया गया। किसान मेले के दूसरे दिन दिनांक 31 जनवरी, 2026 को किसान मेले में देश के विभिन्न राज्यों से आये लगभग 4000 किसानों ने भाग लिया। इस किसान मेले के अवसर पर सम्मानित अतिथियों द्वारा वृक्षारोपण किया गया। किसान मेले के मुख्य समारोह में मुख्य अतिथि, डा. उन्होंने आगे कहा कि यह किसान मेला त्रिवेणी संगम की भांति लगता है क्योंकि यहाँ पर देश के सभी राज्यों के किसान, उद्योग के प्रतिनिधि एवं वैज्ञानिक एक साथ मिलते हैं और निदेशक, सीएसआईआर-सीमैप से आवाहन किया कि इस किसान मेले का नाम त्रिवेणी संगम कहना सही होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि सीएसआईआर-सीमैप के वैज्ञानिको व किसानो के साथ मिलकर कार्य करने से एरोमा मिशन सफल हुआ। इस हेतु सीएसआईआर-सीमैप के साथ एरोमा मिशन जुड़ी दूसरी प्रयोगशालाओं को राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर सम्मान “राष्ट्रीय विज्ञान पुरस्कार 2025 (विज्ञान टीम पुरस्कार) प्राप्त हुआ। महानिदेशक महोदया ने आगे कहा कि “एरोमा मिशन” के वजह से कई परिवार आज खुशहाली भरी जिंदगी जी रहे हैं। उन्होंने सीएसआईआर-सीमैप द्वारा किसानों के लिए किए जा रहे कार्यों की सराहना की। उन्होने यह भी आवाहन सीएसआईआर-सीमैप के नेतृत्व मे एक वेटिवर बोर्ड बनाया जाए जिससे किसानों को इसका लाभ मिल सके।

किसान मेला के अवसर पर विशिष्ठ अतिथि के रूप मे पधारे डा. अजीत कुमार शासनी, निदेशक, वै.औ.अ.प.-राष्ट्रीय वनस्पति अनुसंधान संस्थान (वै.औ.अ.प.-एन.बी.आर.आई.), लखनऊ ने अपने सम्बोधन में औषधीय एवं सगंध पौधों के उत्पादन में सी.एस.आई.आर.-सीमैप के योगदान की प्रशंसा करते हुए कहाकि संस्थान किसानों की आय बढ़ाते हुए देश को मेन्था के उत्पादन और निर्यात में शीर्ष स्तर पहुंचा कर सराहनीय कार्य किया है। सीमैप द्वारा विकसित मेन्था की किस्में किसानों में काफी लोकप्रिय हैं और इसकी उपज बढ़ाने में मददगार साबित हो सकी है। वर्षा आधारित क्षेत्रों में खेती की प्रणाली विकसित करने पर बल देते हुए आशा व्यक्त की कि नींबूघास, रोशाघास, पामारोजा, जिरेनियम जैसी सगंधीय फसलें कम पानी वाले अथवा सूखा प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में सफलता पूर्वक उगाई जा सकेंगी। उन्होनें आगे कहा कि उचित फसल चक्र अपनाकर किसान खाद्यान्न और नकदी फसलें जिसमें औषधीय और सगंध पौधे भी सम्मिलित हैं, की खेती करें जिससे किसानों की आमदनी बढ़ेगी ।

इस अवसर पर, प्रमुख संस्थागत प्रकाशन जारी किए गए, जिनमें रोज़ बुलेटिन शामिल है, जिसमें उत्पादन प्रौद्योगिकियों, प्रथाओं के पैकेज, और दमस्क गुलाब के मूल्य-श्रृंखला विकास पर प्रकाश डाला गया, और एक तितली विविधता पुस्तक, जिसमें 50 से अधिक प्रजातियों का दस्तावेजीकरण किया गया है जो औषधीय और सुगंधित पौधों की खेती में परागण और पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र स्थिरता में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाती हैं। इन विज्ञप्तियों ने अनुसंधान संस्थानों, उद्योग हितधारकों और किसानों के बीच सहयोग को और मजबूत किया।
विशिष्ट अतिथि, डॉ. थल्लाडा भास्कर, निदेशक, सीएसआईआर-उन्नत सामग्री और प्रक्रिया अनुसंधान संस्थान (सीएसआईआर-एएमपीआरआई), भोपाल ने अपने संबोधन में, औषधीय और सुगंधित पौधों के क्षेत्र में प्रक्रिया प्रौद्योगिकियों, मूल्य संवर्धन और उभरते उद्यमशीलता अवसरों पर बात की, जिसमें स्टार्टअप और एमएसएमई पर विशेष जोर दिया गया।
मुख्य अतिथि, डॉ. धीर सिंह ने बहु-विषयक दृष्टिकोण, प्राकृतिक संसाधनों के सतत उपयोग और कृषि आधारित उद्यमिता को बढ़ावा देने के महत्व पर प्रकाश डाला। उन्होंने किसान-अनुकूल और व्यावसायिक रूप से व्यवहार्य प्रौद्योगिकियों के विकास में सीएसआईआर-सीमैप के महत्वपूर्ण योगदान की सराहना की। उन्होंने चारा और चारा नवाचारों पर चल रही अनुसंधान पहलों के बारे में भी बात की, विशेष रूप से जुगाली करने वाले पशुओं के लिए सूखे रूक्षांश के रूप में सुगंधित पौधों के आसवन अवशेषों का उपयोग।
मुख्य अतिथि और विशिष्ट अतिथि को कार्यक्रम के दौरान सम्मानित किया गया। उद्घाटन सत्र का समापन डॉ. संजय कुमार द्वारा प्रस्तावित धन्यवाद प्रस्ताव के साथ हुआ।
हितधारक परामर्श के भाग के रूप में, एक किसान गोष्ठी (किसानों का संवादात्मक सत्र) का आयोजन किया गया, जिसमें सीएसआईआर-सीमैप के वैज्ञानिकों और उद्योग प्रतिनिधियों ने बेहतर कृषि पद्धतियों, फसल कटाई के बाद प्रबंधन, प्रसंस्करण प्रौद्योगिकियों, गुणवत्ता मानकों, बाजार संबंधों और प्रासंगिक सरकारी योजनाओं पर सीधे किसानों के साथ बातचीत की। किसानों ने सक्रिय रूप से अपनी जमीनी चुनौतियों को साझा किया, और विशेषज्ञों ने व्यावहारिक तकनीकी मार्गदर्शन और समाधान प्रदान किए।
दिन में बाद में, सीएसआईआर-सीमैप अनुसंधान फार्म से गुणवत्तापूर्ण रोपण सामग्री का वितरण किया गया, जिससे भाग लेने वाले किसानों के बीच काफी उत्साह पैदा हुआ।

सभा को संबोधित करते हुए, सीएसआईआर-सीमैप के निदेशक डॉ. प्रबोध कुमार त्रिवेदी ने किसानों को औषधीय और सुगंधित फसलों को तेजी से अपनाने और अभिनव कृषि और प्रसंस्करण प्रथाओं से लाभ उठाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया। उन्होंने पुदीना की खेती, इसके उत्पादन, प्रसंस्करण, विपणन और संपूर्ण मूल्य श्रृंखला विकास को बढ़ावा देने में सीएसआईआर-सीमैप की नेतृत्व भूमिका पर प्रकाश डाला। उन्होंने प्रगतिशील और उद्यमशीलता मानसिकता को बढ़ावा देने के लिए नई तकनीकों, प्लेटफार्मों और क्षमता-निर्माण पहलों के माध्यम से किसानों को सशक्त बनाने के लिए संस्थान की प्रतिबद्धता की पुष्टि की। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि सीएसआईआर-सीमैप एक कॉफी टेबल बुक प्रकाशित करने की प्रक्रिया में है जिसमें 100 से अधिक सफल उद्यमी शामिल हैं जो पूरे भारत में औषधीय और सुगंधित पौधों के व्यवसाय पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र के विकास में योगदान दे रहे हैं।
उद्घाटन सत्र के दौरान, दो समझौता ज्ञापनों का आदान-प्रदान किया गया। पहला समझौता ज्ञापन सीएसआईआर-सीमैप और डॉ. राम मनोहर लोहिया आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान (आरएमएलआईएमएस), गोमती नगर, लखनऊ के बीच हस्ताक्षरित किया गया, ताकि सीएसआईआर-सीमैप द्वारा विकसित संभावित औषधीय लीड के नैदानिक परीक्षणों को सुविधाजनक बनाया जा सके, साथ ही पूर्व-नैदानिक अध्ययन, क्रियाविधि अनुसंधान, शैक्षणिक आदान-प्रदान, और एमएपी-आधारित उत्पादों के लिए प्रभावकारिता का सत्यापन। दूसरा समझौता ज्ञापन सीएसआईआर-सीमैप और आईसीएआर-एनडीआरआई, करनाल के बीच आदान-प्रदान किया गया, जो जुगाली करने वाले पशुओं के लिए सूखी चारे के स्रोत के रूप में सुगंधित पौधों के आसवन अवशेषों के उपयोग के लिए अनुसंधान और विकास पर केंद्रित है।

सीएसआईआर-केन्द्रीय औषधीय एवं सगंध पौधा संस्थान (सीएसआईआर-सीमैप) लखनऊ द्वारा आयोजित किसान मेला-2026 का पहला दिन आज संस्थान परिसर के क्षितिज सभागार में सफलतापूर्वक संपन्न हुआ। इस कार्यक्रम में उत्तर प्रदेश और देश के विभिन्न राज्यों से आये हुए किसानों, किसान उत्पादक संगठनों (एफपीओ), उद्यमियों, वैज्ञानिकों, शिक्षाविदों और उद्योग हितधारकों की उत्साही भागीदारी देखी गई। किसान मेला का उद्देश्य किसानों को उन्नत तकनीकों से जोड़ना, औषधीय और सुगंधित पौधों (एमएपी) की खेती को बढ़ावा देना और किसानों, उद्योग और अनुसंधान संस्थानों के बीच संबंधों को मजबूत करना है।
कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ मुख्य अतिथि, डॉ. धीर सिंह, निदेशक, आईसीएआर-राष्ट्रीय डेयरी अनुसंधान संस्थान (एनडीआरआई), करनाल, डॉ. प्रबोध कुमार त्रिवेदी, निदेशक, सीएसआईआर-सीमैप, संस्थान के वरिष्ठ वैज्ञानिकों और कृषि एवं उद्योग पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र के प्रतिष्ठित प्रतिनिधियों के साथ औपचारिक दीप प्रज्वलन के साथ हुआ।
किसान मेला–2026 की गतिविधियों का अवलोकन प्रदान करते हुए, डॉ. संजय कुमार, वैज्ञानिक-G और किसान मेले के संयोजक, ने पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र के महत्वपूर्ण प्रतिनिधित्व सहित देश भर से प्रतिभागियों का स्वागत किया। उन्होंने औषधीय और सुगंधित पौधों के पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र में आजीविका वृद्धि और व्यवसाय विकास के लिए सीएसआईआर-सीमैप की चल रही पहलों पर विस्तार से बताया। उन्होंने संस्थान के किसान-केंद्रित अनुसंधान, प्रौद्योगिकी प्रसार और विस्तार प्रयासों पर प्रकाश डाला, इस बात पर जोर देते हुए कि किसान मेला वैज्ञानिक नवाचारों को क्षेत्र-स्तरीय और बाजार-उन्मुख समाधानों में बदलने के लिए एक प्रभावी मंच के रूप में कार्य करता है, जिससे किसानों की आय में वृद्धि होती है।
