I discussed with the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Abbas Araghchi, on the current situation in the Middle East, the Memorandum of Understanding recently signed with the US and Romania’s approach in line with international law.

Reiterated RO’s lasting commitment for diplomatic solutions to provide for a secure environment both in the Middle East and our own region, and reiterated the risks generated by Russia’s illegal war of aggression.

I underlined the need for the full and safe re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz and restoration of freedom of navigation to stabilise energy markets and food security, access to fertilizers for agriculture in due time.

The Romanian Embassy in Teheran is fully operational and stands ready to help alongside partners to bring seafarers back home, especially those seeking medical attention.

Iran’s new ambassador recently presented the copies of his letters of credence to RO MFA.

I began the second day of #RADR2025 with a new thematic session, “The European Union – a future decided by citizens”, through an open and pragmatic dialogue with @RoxanaMinzatu, Executive Vice-President of the COM for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, alongside Presidential Adviser @Odobes1Luminita.
I fully share Vice-President Minzatu’s vision that “Europe has a future insofar as it manages to invest in and connect with ordinary people, with the same energy with which it speaks about security and defence.”
I also fully agree that “Europe is a common home, with a solid foundation, a flexible roof, large windows and open doors – and we must take care of it so that it continues to be our home.”

Key messages emerging from this productive exchange of views include:
• The European Union is a fabulous and powerful project, which today is attacked through foreign interference and hybrid actions precisely because it is a successful and democratic project.
• Romania must courageously make the transition from mere membership of the EU to the strategic tenacity of shaping leadership within the Union.
• 🇷🇴 Romania’s role in the EU must take the form of a pole of strength for consolidating the Union’s role in the world 🌎.
• Supporting the European population in the diaspora is essential.

That is why today, more than ever, we need an applied discussion about what the European project means in this intensely digitalized world, marked by the challenges of technological transition. Young people are the key resource for better and more accurate awareness of the values and benefits of the European Union. Likewise, citizens’ expectations and their greater involvement are fundamental in advancing the European project 🇪🇺 and preparing the Union for the future.
We are therefore moving forward with firm determination to calibrate European policies so that they deliver tangible results for our citizens.
The dialogue, moderated by State Secretary @ClaraStaicu, highlighted overall that the current situation, marked by multiple challenges, should not limit Europe’s future, but strengthen it and make it more powerful and more resilient. In addition, the European Union naturally needs to foster education, stimulate mobility and accelerate exchanges in support of innovation.

M-am întâlnit astăzi la Palatul Cotroceni cu diplomații români și am discutat despre ceea ce trebuie să facem împreună pentru ca România să își atingă obiectivele în plan intern și extern.

Sunt trei direcții principale pe care se va concentra activitatea noastră - securitate, dimensiune economică și românii din afara granițelor. Sunt foarte optimist că, imediat după reformele absolut necesare care sunt deja în derulare, vom relansa economia.
Politica noastră externă trebuie să rămână predictibilă și coerentă.

Apartenența la Uniunea Europeană, la NATO, Parteneriatul Strategic cu SUA, mai bine fructificat, și cooperarea cu partenerii noștri internaționali sunt lucruri pe care nu le vom schimba. Vom continua sprijinul pentru Ucraina pentru că de acest lucru depinde însăși securitatea noastră. Republica Moldova trebuie să rămână o prioritate și o vom susține în toate chestiunile concrete de care are nevoie – transport, energie și cooperare economică.

Aderarea României la OCDE la finalul anului 2026 este un obiectiv strategic și momentul de la care economia noastră va începe să se relanseze. În acest sens, este nevoie ca Președinția, Guvernul și Ministerul Economiei să definească împreună prioritățile majore economice ale României, într-un dialog cu companiile din țara noastră.

Totodată, este necesar un efort pe care diplomația românească să îl facă pentru a dezvolta parteneriate între mediul privat autohton și cel din țările în care diplomații ne reprezintă.

În ceea ce privește Diaspora, trebuie să lucrăm la o strategie clară, cu obiective, bugete și termene de realizare, astfel încât colaborarea cu românii din străinătate să fie mai eficientă decât în prezent.

At the second thematic session of #RADR2025 – “Our Region in a New Strategic Reality” – I emphasized that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has profoundly altered the European and Euro-Atlantic security architecture.

This cannot be accepted as a “new normal.” Our response: strengthening the Eastern Flank, increased investments in defense, and a solid framework of guarantees for Ukraine, meant to deter any future aggression.

A just and lasting peace cannot be built without the decisive involvement of the United States and the European states, strong transatlantic coordination, and, above all, Ukraine’s participation in all decisions concerning its future. Together with @sikorskiradek, @kajakallas, and @Sekerinska, we discussed the essential role of NATO and the EU in reinforcing resilience and protecting our region.

🇷🇴 At the end of the first day of #RADR2025, the key message from our partners was clear: “We have your back.” It is the phrase we must repeat every day, because our prosperity, economy and freedom depend on this fundamental guarantee. We thank our partners for standing with us – "they have our back".

The first thematic session of #RADR2025 was dedicated to economic diplomacy and Romania’s accession to the @OECD.

I emphasized that economic diplomacy must go beyond statements and connect directly to the needs of the real economy in order to generate tangible results for companies and taxpayers. Together with line ministries and the private sector, we are transforming economic diplomacy into a resource for national economic growth.

Alongside leaders from the economic and financial sectors – Radu Miruță (Romanian Ministry of Economy), Leonardo Badea (@bnr_ro ), @cris_chiriac (National Confederation for Women’s Entrepreneurship), Sergiu Negut (RBL), Sergiu Manea (Concordia) and Dănuț-Leonard Sandu (Romanian Investment and Development Bank) – we discussed the importance of strengthening the network of economic attachés and reforming ARICE (Romanian Agency for Investments and Foreign Trade) to successfully attract foreign investment and support the internationalization of Romanian companies.

The dialogue, moderated by State Secretary @LucaNiculescu, highlighted that the involvement of the business community and diplomatic missions is essential for an economic diplomacy aligned with new realities and for Romania’s successful accession to the OECD in 2026.

You can rely on Romania – this is the core message we are conveying from #RADR2025.

I opened the 2025 Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy alongside the President of the Senate and the President of the Chamber of Deputies, in the presence of the diplomatic corps and our guests. This year’s theme – “A Decade of Change: The Impact of Romanian Diplomacy” – calls on us to look ahead with renewed vision and practical responsibility.

Romania will be a pillar of security in the Black Sea, a trusted partner in the EU, a strong and determined NATO Ally, and committed to the Strategic Partnership with the United States. Equally, leveraging its strengths and position, Romania strongly supports the European path of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

And, as Enescu said, humanity has overcome challenges with heroic vitality – courage will not be lacking now, and neither will the impact and strength of Romanian diplomacy. #RADR2025
