On 5 April 1955, literature laureate Bertrand Russell wrote to physics laureate Albert Einstein to ask for his support in standing up against nuclear weapons.
Einstein agreed. The letter led to the Russell-Einstein Manifesto, which Einstein signed days before his death.
Trump: I hang out with losers because it makes be feel better. I hate guys that are very, very successful and you have to listen to their success stories. I like people that like to listen to my success.
The relationship of John Cazale with Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep will make you cry.
Cazale only made five films:
The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon & The Deer Hunter.
All five were nominated for Best Picture. Every. Single. One.
De Niro met Cazale during The Godfather Part II. He admired him deeply and considered him one of the most talented actors of his generation. They became very close friends.
Not long after, director Michael Cimino approached De Niro about starring in The Deer Hunter, a film about the Vietnam War. Studios were hesitant to finance it because the war was still recent, so Cimino relied on De Niro’s star power to secure funding.
De Niro agreed — on one condition: he wanted to bring some of his friends onto the project, including Christopher Walken and John Cazale.
That’s when Cazale revealed devastating news. He had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. He was only 41 years old and had months to live.
The studio refused to insure him due to the risk. If he died during production, it would cost millions.
De Niro stepped in. He made it clear that if Cazale wasn’t cast, he wouldn’t do the film either. To reassure the producers, De Niro personally covered the insurance cost required to hire Cazale — and he did it without Cazale knowing.
Production scheduled all of Cazale’s scenes first, just in case.
According to those on set, he never complained. Not once.
John Cazale hesitated at first, but agreed to do the film on one condition: that his girlfriend at the time — an unknown actress named Meryl Streep — would also appear in the movie.
From that film, Streep received her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, launching one of the greatest careers in cinema history.
John Cazale died in March 1978, before The Deer Hunter was released. He never saw it win Best Picture.
Five films.
Five Best Picture nominees.
A short life. A permanent legacy.
When did Americans get this stupid?
MAGA position:
Tariffs don’t raise prices (they do).
Free trade isn’t free (it is).
Trump negotiated free trade, but free trade is bad.
Tariffs are “leverage,” except when they’re emotional punishment.
Americans should pay more because conservatives felt offended.
Fuck, man.
GOOD NEIGHBOURS... 🇨🇦 🇺🇸
🟥 I have seen so many comments over the past several months, and especially in recent days, from Americans reaching out to express their apologies to Canada, for Trump’s attitude toward us: the harsh rhetoric, threats, and overall treatment...
They emphasize that they do not support or endorse his behaviour, and stress their DEEP respect and affection for Canada.
They want to make it clear that Trump’s actions and words do not reflect the views or values of most Americans.
AMERICAN FRIENDS – we know that the great majority of you feel nothing but goodwill toward us. We’ve always been, and still are, good neighbours. ✅
A shared history runs between us.
▪️ Shared sacrifices.
▪️ Shared traditions.
▪️ An intertwined economy.
▪️ Shared security and defence commitments.
That bond isn’t fragile.
It’s not going anywhere.
It’s UNBREAKABLE.
And when this moment of madness has passed ... and it WILL ... we will come together again, bound by our shared affection and common purpose, as nations and as peoples. 👍🏼
This video from the last Liberal Party campaign, that features the town of Gander, Newfoundland that opened their doors and hearts to thousands of stranded Americans after 9/11, reminds me of our close bond. ⬇️ 🙂
For anyone who would like to hear Mark Carney’s outstanding Davos speech in full here it is. This is what true global leadership looks like.
Canada should be immensely proud today, because they are leading the fight back when others dare not.

Watch Scott Galloway eviscerate Trump, Scott Bessent, and their fucked-up tariff policy that has alienated our allies, bankrupted working class families, and destroyed the "envy of the world" economy President Biden handed to Dirty Donald. 😳👇

Want to see how far right the Republican Party has gone?
Watch George H. W. Bush and Ronald Reagan answer a question about illegal immigration during a 1980 debate.
They wouldn’t even be allowed in today’s Republican Party.
Thank you President Trump for drawing our attention to a historic and foundational document in the Canada–U.S. economic relationship. I invite everyone, especially our American friends, to listen to President Reagan’s full speech and form their own opinion about what he was truly saying.
