Like even my conservative parents in California were chill with gay people, whereas the small town my wife grew up had a pastor who was famous for writing a best selling book for disowning his gay son and still preaches to this day. That song was radical for folks in those spaces

Macklemore was corny to many of us who lived in big cities where gay marriage was legal and pushing for acceptance, but for a country where gay marriage was not fully legalized and rural folks for the first time heard this message AND it featured a lesbian artist? Rad as hell
