The Bund rejected Zionism. The Bund were all killed by Nazis and communists. For the vast majority of the Jews of the Eastern Hemisphere, the only survival and freedom they could find -- after trying every other imaginable option -- was Zionism.
Zionism is big and diverse and complex and beautiful. Zionism is also the product of a vast, unspeakable tragedy.
The Bund *should* have been able to build an interesting and flourishing Jewish world all its own, in the "hereness" of Eastern Europe. And in a better world, the Bund would have. But this isn't that world.
In this world, the Nazi war on the millenia-old European Jewish civilization was successful, the Jews of Europe were wiped out -- and old ideas that once animated Nazis and Stalinists in their murder of Bundists have now returned into fashion on left and right and gone looking once more for the Jews.
Is there a word that describes a Jew so pitiably afraid of the current whirlwind of hatred that they choose to build a fake past to live in, just so they can pretend that Jews ever had an alternative to Zionism?
The Bund's story, like Molly Crabapple's ahistorical polemics, is merely one more data point demonstrating that Zionism's case is actually -- tragically, in fact -- impregnable. That it is a story of the transformation of catastrophic annihilation into triumphant freedom and survival.
This is very sad. In over 30 years as a trauma psychologist, I’ve seen this exact posture in abused women and in people caught inside cultic systems. When they speak, they frame not checking in with their partner or the group’s gatekeepers as a kind of sin, as if having an independent thought requires repentance. They start treating ordinary acts of agency - talking to someone outside the circle or forming a judgment on their own - as betrayals that must be confessed.
This isn’t moral clarity; it’s fear wearing the mask of conscience. What you hear isn’t a free person speaking. It’s someone who obeys because losing the group frightens them more than losing themselves.
Antisemitism isn't disliking Jews.
Antisemitism is the idea that Jews stand in the way of redemption, of whatever value you hold most dear.
The specific redemption changes. In the Islamic version, Jews are the base liars who warped their own revelation and then refused to recognize the truth and divinity of Mohammed's. In Marxism, they are the arch-capitalists. In Nazism, the arch-globalists. And in Augustine's Christianity, they're the rejectors of Christ who delay his return.
Antisemitism feels righteous.
Denise Gough is an antisemite. She knows nothing at all about the world except that Israel is somehow at the heart of all its problems. And it feels like righteousness.
There’s a millennial type that flirted w populist class first politics in 2015, then lost its mind with Trump’s election. They obsess w whatever bandwagon issue elite libs promote, like abolish police or covid mandates. No concern for the impact on poor people. Zero principles.
Biden & democrats are building Trump's wall, pushing for another unending war like GOP under Bush in Iraq & Afghanistan, both parties supported reduction in taxes for corporations & opposed universal health care. Now tell me again why we are supposed to be afraid of Trump?
They would *never* do this for healthcare, a living wage, Flint, the Pro Act, police reform, Uvalde, or literally anything that helps poor or working class Americans.
Bidenomics:
-Home prices have increased by 30% since 2021
-Rent has increased by 25% since 2021
-Eviction filings are 50% higher since 2021
-5.5M kicked off medicaid
-27.6M lack healthcare
-Childhood poverty has jumped from 5.2% to 12.4% since 2021

On the one hand, House Democrats have the opportunity to make a deal and lend a few votes to install a moderate Republican speaker. On the other hand, the concession Dems seem to want most isn't a Child Tax Credit -- it would probably just be more Ukraine war funding.
All I heard for years is “Force The Vote never work!”
And here comes Matt Gaetz, forcing the vote and holding the speaker accountable.
This proves the left is the left’s greatest enemy and largest obstacle.
“Removing Nancy Pelosi isn’t chaos. What is chaos is 70,000 Americans dying each year because they don’t have healthcare and she refuses to put it up for a vote”
Imagine if the left supported Force the Vote and AOC and the squad was making this argument in front of the MILLIONS of people watching
Instead they voted for Nancy Pelosi and the DSA left ran cover for them. Now we are further away from Medicare for All than when the Bernie movement started
Democrats gave up power largely because certain leftists were too stupid to understand politics and too smug, small, and petty to listen to those of us who did.
A once in a generation opportunity squandered.
Really embarrassing stuff from the establishment-left.
After seeing what is happening to Kevin McCarthy due to the actions of a small militant caucus, i’d be embarrassed if I was someone on the “left” who spoke out against Force the Vote when we demanded AOC and the squad do the same to Nancy Pelosi
How does it feel to be proven so completely wrong and exposed as a naive political child?
