A few years after we were told that South Africa’s presidential Jet, Inkwazi, had technical problems and that it was no longer reliable, the Jet is still flying perfectly currently in France with president @CyrilRamaphosa#StateCaptureCommission
So inspiring to spend time with the world’s best President to hear his reflections on a life in campaigning politics, holding onto the transcendant, and how not to be knocked back by people who tell you that change is impossible.
@mathebula_chris FICA requires them to ask the source of funding and check whether the buyer is not politically exposed, and flag it with authorities if suspect malice, but car dealership are doing that as a tick box exercise, rather than something they see as their strict legal responsibility.
The fight for HIV medicines taught the world that science only saves lives when it is shared. Today, that lesson is at risk of being forgotten. But we are on the verge of an HIV prevention revolution—we still have the chance to end AIDS by 2030.
This is a watershed moment in the fight to #endAIDS as a public health threat. A price of $40 per person per year is a leap forward that will help to unlock the revolutionary potential of long-acting HIV medicines.
@GileadSciences now needs to match that ambition by reducing its price for #lenacapavir, being completely transparent on cost and pricing, expanding its generics license to include all low and middle-income countries, and allowing more people in developing countries to rapidly access these life-saving medicines.
Yesterday, Ms Geingos joined her fellow Co-Chairs Prof Sir @MichaelMarmot & Prof @JosephEStiglitz with @Winnie_Byanyima of @UNAIDS & members of the Global Council on Inequality, AIDS & Pandemics, for an in-person convening at @Columbia University during the @UN General Assembly.
@ZiyandaNgcobo We need another commission to investigate corrupt cartels looting the state through tenders. They have invaded the state procurement. Akere the country is being run through commissions of inquiries,
@HeidiGiokos@wicks_jeff This is why I have no hope for this country. The criminal cartels are in charge. We are not building hospitals, schools nor clinics. Taxpayers' money is going straight into criminals' pockets. And guess what, by 2040, our population will be around 90 million. We are in for chaos.
@Dischem I think I have done everything I needed to do here. It's your business to sort it out. Go and queue there on Monday pretending to be a customer and see how long it takes to get attended.
@Dischem Vorna Valley is a joke of a pharmacy. Don't think any1 shud wait 45 minutes to get their prescription meds in a small pharmacy with less than 5 customers at a given time. It doesn't help when one of the staff tells you that they are going on lunch when things are slow.
@RediTlhabi That was Tshidi for you. She was critical of others as much as she was self-critical. She never hid any lies to self glorify. And oh boy, she loved what she did even when the system let her down at times. She was a blessing to humanity. May Her Beautiful Soul Rest In Peace.
@Newzroom405 It sounds fair after tenders cost us honest South Africans who were fighting tender-related corruption. Remember Babita Deokoran? May Her Dear Soul Continue to Haunt those who killed her.
@RediTlhabi@CityofJoburgZA@CityPowerJhb@JHBWater Wait for this: last week I discovered a Public library in Midrand which has no internet. Corruption has collapsed the city of Johannesburg. There is now a theft of residents' money through electricity service charges. The biggest corruption affecting residents is going on
Looking forward to moderating a difficult topic, about how to build “global solidarity” & circumvent the funding cuts to the HIV/AIDS response - as SA hosts @UNAIDS for “the Global Update: AIDS, Crisis & the power to Transform” - Let’s find a solution! #HIVAwareness#globlaupdate
