Immunology Group investigating how the tumour microenvironment influences the lymph node priming environment at the CRUK Scotland Institute (he/him) π³οΈβπ
Turns out RNA capping regulates mitochondria during T cell activation impacting their function. Guess I better dig out my old biochemistry notes!
Congrats Alison Galloway, Tom MacVicar and @Vichaico

Scientists at the @Robertslab1@CRUK_SI Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute raised more than Β£650 for the charity by braving the mud at Pretty Muddy on Saturday. Despite torrential rain the team successfully tackled the challenging course in Strathclyde Park. Huge thanks from everyone @CancerResearch UK for helping to fund lifechanging research πππ
π¨π Out now in @PLOSPathogens! ππ¨ This project has taken us @CVRinfo@UofGMVLS on a wild and wonderful journey. I am excited to share our story of how influenza A viruses (IAVs) exploit cell death to facilitate its covert spread. N/1 https://t.co/tA89zMQMAH
I am beyond excited to share that you can now apply to observe a @wellcometrust#DiscoveryResearch shortlisting Committee! If you plan to apply to us in the next 2 years, apply to be an Observer now to better understand what happens once you click submit https://t.co/hk1YtFDWvJ
Ciliary proteins regulate TCR signalling in unciliated T cells. Inhibition of UNC119 also can inhibit T acute lymphocytic leukemia cell growth @CRUK_SI@Robertslab1

Congratulations Youhani for publishing her PhD work showing Unc119 regulates Lck activity in primary T cells and in T-ALL!

π NEW | Research from the CVR reveals how #H5N1 avian influenza has adapted to infect bovine cells, contributing to a major outbreak in dairy cattle in North America.
Multiple internal genomic segments of the virus drive its adaptation to bovine cells.

It was great to be back at @UofGlasgow to talk about my PhD research, experience and sci-comm career. I had really missed talking about dendritic cells!
Very privileged to accept the @UofGCancerSci PhD prize.
Especially loved catching up with @immuno_ed and @Robertslab1 β¨

We report CK2 kinase phosphorylates RNA cap methyltransferase, CMTR1, promoting interaction with RNA pol II and RNA cap formation. CMTR1 phosphorylation impacts ribosome production, IFN responses and influenza infection. @CRUK_SI
Some #CRUKFunded research spotted at #BiCconf24 π
PhD student Sarah is presenting her work which uses mouse models to investigate the encapsulation of liver tumours by macrophages.

I will have two postdoc positions and a technical post in my new(ish) lab in UCL. One biased to wet experiments with chemoattractant gradients, and one more based on modelling and maths. But both posts encompassing both.
Drop me a line!
