I’m a Black Republican who disagrees with @RepJeffries on nearly every political issue—but I will not remain silent while @rulajebreal calls America’s highest-ranking Black member of Congress an “AIPAC monkey” and an “errand boy.”

That is vile, dehumanizing racism. Her pathetic “I didn’t mean it in a racist way” excuse changes nothing.

If a conservative had said this, the media would demand careers be destroyed. The same standard must apply to the Left. Condemn it—loudly, unequivocally and without excuses.

Pastors and churches: I encourage you to pray for Wednesday’s oral arguments in Louisiana v. FDA.

If successful, this important case could restore the in-person dispensing requirement for the abortion pill mifepristone, saving babies and protecting women.

We’ve seen that unfettered access to abortion pills through the mail allows women to be coerced into taking the medication, poisoned without their knowledge, or to use the drug beyond the recommended gestational limit.

Pray that the state of Louisiana will prevail and that the FDA will reinstate important safety regulations. Pray, too, for Louisiana @AGLizMurrill and Solicitor General Ben Aguiñaga, who will be arguing the case on Wednesday morning before the Fifth Circuit.

Last year I gave away 500 sourdough starters.
There is a counter in my farmhouse kitchen that spends much of the year covered in jars. Neighbors kept asking to buy one, and when I finally sat down with the rules, I discovered that selling a jar of living sourdough starter was so tangled in regulation that I would save money by giving it away. So I gave it away. 500 jars in a year. 500 families baking bread at home because the law could not decide what a living thing was.

I laugh about it, mostly. But I have been thinking about that counter full of jars all year, because something is coming that will make it matter far more than it did.

First, let me tell you who I am. I'm a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. I live on 22 acres in Indiana that four generations of my family share: my parents, my husband and me, our children, and our grandchildren. Thirty years ago this land was a cornfield.

Today it's gardens, a vineyard, an orchard, sheep on pasture, and grandbabies in the garden rows. I planted a food forest behind my parents' house at 15, opened my first community garden and brought home dairy goats at 22, and learned stonework at 30 so I could build a little Tudor cottage with my own hands. I've spent my whole life making things at home and teaching other people, mostly women, to do the same.

And in all those years I've learned one thing above the rest. The women of this country do not need to be taught to love their homes. They need permission to let their homes earn.

The oldest workplace in the world
For almost all of human history, the household was where things were made. The kitchen was a bakery. The barn was a workshop. The front room was a schoolhouse. The garden was the grocery. The women who kept those households were not decorative, and no one thought they were. They were producers. Our word "economy" comes from the Greek for household management. The home was not a corner of the economy. The home was the economy.

That arrangement did not fail. It ended because we industrialized, and then, having industrialized, we wrote a tax code and a zoning code that assumed the factory was the only serious place to make anything at all. For 100 years those codes have treated the home as a bedroom attached to a driveway, and the homemaker as a consumer of what strangers make far away.

The home was the economy.
You can feel the tide turning.

Women are coming home. We homeschool in numbers nobody predicted. We bake, we garden, we keep chickens, we sew, we put up food in August the way our great-grandmothers did.

The homestead is no longer a curiosity; it is a longing shared by millions of women who suspect, correctly, that the modern arrangement shortchanged them. But let one of those women try to sell her extra bread, her eggs, her soap, or her herbs, and she meets the codes standing in the doorway: the permit, the filing, the zoning letter, the polite warning from the county.

And now the wave. The factories are being automated. The offices are being automated. Artificial intelligence has already come for the paperwork, and the humanoid robots are coming for the warehouse floor. Much of that work is dull or dangerous, and I would rather a robot do it than a father who never gets home before his children are asleep. But a country that lets the factory and the office empty out without opening another door has made a terrible mistake, and it will have made it on purpose. The one workplace no robot can take from us is a family working with its own hands on its own ground. We have to move the barriers before the wave arrives, not after….

A woman called Chewy after a $70 bag of prescription dog food arrived three days after her dog died.

She expected return labels, shipping fees, and a hassle.

Instead, Chewy refunded every penny, told her to donate the food to a local rescue, and two days later sent flowers with a handwritten condolence card.

That’s not “customer service.”

That’s being human when somebody is hurting.

Companies spend millions trying to manufacture loyalty.

Sometimes all it takes is compassion.

This morning, President Trump announced action against the four companies that dominate American beef processing and signaled he wants to give ranchers more freedom to process their own product. Two of those four processors are controlled by foreign corporations. More competition in processing is a step in the right direction, and we support it.

But if the goal is actually to lower prices for American families, the most direct path is mandatory country of origin labeling. Without it, imported beef enters our supply chain, sits beside American beef in your grocery store, gets blended into ground beef, and is sold without any obligation to tell you where it came from. There is nothing requiring the savings from cheaper imported beef to be passed along to you.

Give consumers transparency and let them choose. That is how a free market is supposed to work. Competition only functions when people know what they are choosing between.

We can support a president when he gets it right and respectfully challenge him when we believe he gets it wrong. That is not political. That is the job.

Break the processing bottleneck. Bring back mandatory country of origin labeling. Give every American, Republican, Democrat, independent, or libertarian, the right to know where their food comes from.
