Trump’s budget director Russ Vought is the most dangerous person you’ve never heard of.
And he just proposed turning every federal grant into a loyalty test.
His plan would make funding for cancer research, housing, transportation, and public health depend on one thing: whether it “advances the President’s policy priorities.”
Not whether it works.
Not whether Congress authorized it.
Whether it pleases Trump.
This is the appropriations power. It belongs to Congress and to the people.
To my Republican colleagues: where are you?
Congress passed this funding. You voted for it.
Vought is telling you to your faces that your votes do not matter, that he and his enablers will override the law whenever it suits them. Every day you stay silent, you give away the institution you were elected to defend.
Grow a spine.
This is not about left or right.
It is about whether Congress still exists as a coequal branch, or whether we have quietly surrendered the purse to an unelected hack who holds the Constitution in contempt.
History will remember who stood up and who looked away.

We’ve built an entire corporate ritual that concedes a ‘rigid’ workweek is optional. (But then we forget we ever admitted that by Labor Day). Check out my latest post on summer hours: https://t.co/KCMvpUgtcF
Now, with the departure of Anderson Cooper and the firings of Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecilia Vega and Scott Pelley, 60 Minutes only has three full-time correspondents for next season.
And it's still unclear where Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and Jon Wertheim stand.

If you're not LGBT, you might think it's a bit frivolous or silly to have rainbows or pride flags or visibility, but take a moment and watch this. Without words, you can see the difference it makes in knowing that someone or some place is safe or okay. This is part of pride.
Breaking News: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth blocked the promotions of at least seven Navy officers in a move that targeted women and minority officers. https://t.co/1vww7IxOf1
Holy shit, Trump is really crashing out. His latest unhinged screed: “We should have a giant MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY, for 250, instead of having overpriced singers, who nobody wants to hear, whose music is boring, and yet who do nothing but complain. Cancel it, just like I canceled my involvement with the failing and unsafe to be in Kennedy Center, because a Highly Conflicted, Crooked Federal Judge, said that I should not be allowed to spend my time and money in order to MAKE THE CENTER GREAT AGAIN”
In another unhinged, very long rant on Truth Social, Trump attacked the judge who ruled against him in the Kennedy Center case, fumed that the judge wanted to “Rip his name off the Building,” claimed the court system is “RIGGED,” suggested that “his wife probably told him” how to rule, and complained that the Supreme Court will likely rule against him in the birthright citizenship case.
Man, he’s really not taking this well. SAD!
Fun fact: The removal of Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center is a “permanent” injunction. It’s a FINAL judgement. No appeals. They have 14 days to remove the name. Period.
