“This is something that occurs in this community all the time. You can’t stop living,” Elliott said. “Some of us on the board have been affected by things that have happened in the community and you have to learn to live with it and continue to try to live a productive life #ROC
One battle forever changed the course of history.
84 years ago, America turned the tide in the Pacific by dealing the Imperial Japanese Navy a stunning defeat at the Battle of Midway, sending the four fleet carriers of the Combined Fleet beneath the waves.
Though three more years of grueling warfare lay ahead, through the courage and sacrifice of American Sailors, Marines, and aviators, the United States would never again surrender the strategic initiative.
Today is the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. For Ukrainians, this is a painful reality that has become part of everyday life.
Since 2022 alone, Russia has killed 707 Ukrainian children, injured 2,548, and left 2,318 missing. The youngest victim was just two days old - born and killed in a maternity hospital.
These figures may be far higher, as the full truth about what has happened in the temporarily occupied territories remains unknown. In addition, at least 20,470 Ukrainian children have been deported to Russia or forcibly displaced.
Eternal memory to all the children whose lives have been taken by Russia's aggression...
Incredible.
A café employs people with Down syndrome to affirm their humanity and break societal stigmas.
An extra chromosome does not determine a person’s worth or humanity.
We need more of this.
Emotional moment as graduate Kalen Barksdale walked the stage expecting his diploma—only for school staff to pretend it was missing before his sister, returning home in military uniform after serving overseas, surprised him and presented it herself.
When crossed, they are ruthless, but you'll never witness a more gentle soul as they honor a fallen brother.
This is gut wrenching to watch.

The Golden Gate Bridge opened to the public for the first time on this day in 1937. About 200,000 people paid 25¢ to walk the bridge, equal to about $5.75 in today's dollars. The next day it opened to cars. This footage is from the Prelinger Archives, acquired by the Library in 2002.
Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.
France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend
One of the reasons to love Ukrainians is their kind hearts.

HEARTWARMING: #Bills Josh Allen stopped signing autographs and started heading to the locker room when he saw a young girl in tears because she had barely missed his signature.
Allen went back, hugged her, & gave her his autograph.

This is Alex Roca Campillo.
He has cerebral palsy and became the first person in the world with a 76% disability to finish a marathon.
Alex showed the world that a person’s inabilities don’t determine their value or potential.
Truly inspiration ❤️
An Iranian 🇮🇷 woman: "Islam is not our religion in Iran. Islam was forced on us through torture, killing, beheading, raping, and enslaving Iranians to become Muslims. Iranians, Persians, were actually Zoroastrians."
This needs to be shared every single day.
You need to grow up in Iran. Go to school under Islamic law, experienced get beaten up for showing your hair, go to prison for speaking up receiving lashes where fear is part of your daily education, then you will understand my feelings in front of this Mosque in Hamburg.
This Blue Mosque and more the 50 more across Germany were built by the regime of Iran under the protection of your laws, your tolerance, your tax system, and your religious freedom.
And what did Europe get in return? A new generation taught that the West is evil while Hamas, Hezbollah, and the IRGC are somehow “resistance.”

There are certain stories I find myself thinking about more than I expect.
Back in the early 1970s, while most 21-year-olds were just starting out, a young Army nurse named Jo Webb stepped into Vietnam carrying nothing but her training, her uniform, and the responsibility to keep others alive.
She served in places like Long Binh, Phu Bai, and Saigon-hospitals close enough to the fighting that the war never really stopped. Helicopters came in day and night, bringing in wounded soldiers straight from the battlefield. Within minutes, they were fighting for their lives all over again.
I try to picture what that must've been like.
Long shifts, constant noise, one stretcher after another. Assisting in surgery, steadying hands, offering calm words to young men far from home. In places like Phu Bai, even the hospitals weren't safe-but they stayed and did their jobs anyway.
That's the part that stays with me.
When her tour ended in 1972, she came home quietly-no parade, no headlines. Like many military nurses, her story faded into the background.
But a lot of men made it home because someone like Jo Webb was there when it mattered most.
We remember those who ran into battle— and we should. But there's another kind of courage in those who stayed behind and helped put the pieces back together.
And that kind of courage saved lives too. 🙏🇺🇸🙏
