@vickrrm @cherrycrosss@DareYouToBeMe@emmacrochets I thrift bc I’ve been thrifting since I was a kid and I enjoy it. It also happens to be the only way I can afford to buy clothing a lot of the time. That being said, I never do “hauls” and I try to be self critical abt how much/often I’m buying.
@vickrrm @cherrycrosss@DareYouToBeMe@emmacrochets I completely see your point and I think we can agree that overconsumption—at a thrift store as with anywhere—is what’s at the heart of the problem. I think thrifting tends to be a better thing to do than buying ff.
@BbeGrl238@emmacrochets Idk because every thrift I’ve ever been in has had sizes xs to xxxL+ in various amounts. Certainly just as many options as most fast fashion stores. Maybe it differs by region?
@vickrrm @cherrycrosss@DareYouToBeMe@emmacrochets Can you clarify what it is that your mean then? If your issue is not that thrift stores have gotten more expensive, and not that there is a scarcity of clothing, what is your issue with thrifting? (Genuinely curious, not trying to instigate).
@justindimez@emmacrochets This is true and should be talked about more, but most people buy a phone every couple years. Clothing like this is being bought at a constant rate. It’s the pace of consumption, not the method of production, which is different. Both are bad!
@vickrrm @cherrycrosss@DareYouToBeMe@emmacrochets There is an excess of clothing on the planet rn. Hold GoodWill et al responsible for jacking up their prices. They’re supposed to be nonprofits. As for resellers btw a lot of them are doing it bc they are broke and need income. There’s enough second hand stuff to go around.
Perhaps we need to refurbish the category of “decadence” in its worst sense—socio-cultural death drive—which would include both our destruction of the biosphere and the millions who think that Lady Gaga makes music, among so many other abominations....
