My friend called me today. She told me last year was okay but she has had a very good year and she does not regret moving back to 9ja. She reminded me that I was the one that inspired her to move back. It was difficult having that conversation with people because everyone was giving same reaction "Why are you moving back to 9ja? Better stay in UK." I was the only one that told her to leave if she wanted, that I was leaving too. She thought I was joking but when she saw I was serious, it made her convinced because I could relate to how she was feeling.

She was not happy and she was getting depressed. When I told my family I was moving back, they just shrugged their shoulders and said "you never wanted to leave 9ja in the first place." Her own family was fighting hard to convince her to stay in UK. When I told her I was ready to leave and I had packed, she screamed "Dickson, tell me it is not a prank." I told her I was serious and when she saw I was really in Lagos, she stopped explaining to people and packed her bags too. She makes her money online, so it is not as if she was financially gaining from the system. My friends in UK were begging me to stay back. My friends in 9ja knew I was coming back, they were just not sure of the date.

Japa is such an interesting concept. Please japa because you want to and not because others are doing it. Stay in 9ja because you want to and not because others are doing it. Personal conviction is important. I could decide to pack and japa tomorrow but I really do not have that desire. I cherish the privilege of having been able to travel, and being able to travel. But I like being at home and around family. Nothing gives me more meaning to life than that.

I will be running another experiment.

The top 40 students in Enugu from the last Olympiad will engage in a 3-week bootcamp to learn some critical skills with precision.

They will learn how to build drones from the ground up, auto mechanics, precision welding, electrical work, and basic programming.

Some experts will fly into Enugu for the period to train them on these skills. It will run from August 10 to August 30.

If this works as planned, then it will give us stronger validation for the skill development program we are currently designing.

Don’t be tired of my experiments. Whatever works, we scale quickly.

All stages will be fully computer-based, and students will receive their results next day, along with detailed answer explanations, enabling them to learn from the questions they found most challenging.

One thing that deeply worries me about Nigeria is this:

Some dreams are almost impossible to achieve if you're born, raised, and educated here.

Want to become an astronaut? There is virtually no pathway.

Want to become a world-class professional footballer? For most talented children, the route is far harder than it should be because the development ecosystem is weak.

And there are many other careers where your biggest obstacle isn't your talent, it's your geography.

This is why some Nigerians have to leave the country, not because they hate Nigeria, but because that's the only way to fully pursue their dreams.

That should concern all of us.

A child's future should be determined by their ability and hard work, not by the accident of where they were born.

Nigeria has no shortage of talent.

What we're missing is a system that allows talent to become greatness.

I’ve just seen a post on how some Nigerian TikTok users post videos on how to scam online market companies like Temu. They teach people how to order, collect the product, lie they haven’t, then request a refund. It’s a really appalling disgraceful shame.

We really have “content creators” who are actually criminals that should be in jail.

Why are you making a post teaching people to scam a company? What kind of madness is this?

When those companies blacklist the entire country, we are the same people who will cry about stereotyping and discrimination.

While coming back from the hospital, I saw this my favourite chin chin that I always buy from my customer.

Went there and took two rolls, gave them ₦4k

Was about to leave when the lady told me it's sold for ₦2k not ₦4k..

I asked her how much is one and she said ₦100..

I was shocked cause my regular customer used to sell it ₦200 per one.

So I went to my regular customer in our street and asked her why sells thr chin chin ₦200

She said " but I thought you're OK with any price I give you, its just ₦100 addition na, no vex"
