Here’s what my Coaching Session Plans look like:
1). Chaotic warm up with ball - 15min
2). Passing pattern - 10min
3). Match-based scenario - 15min
4). Phase of Play - 25min
5). SSG/MSG/LSG - 25min
Session total - 90min
See breakdown below 👇
1a- Chaotic warm up with ball (technical focus with some mention of & exposure to decision making with & without the ball. Chance to bed in good habits.
1b- Integrated FMS, dynamic stretching, & priming within the warm up with the ball (stop for 2mins, carry on etc)
2- Passing pattern of typical set up and sequence from a game. Often moving the ball out of defence, or preferably an attacking pattern. My favourite- up, back, & through!
3- Decision making Scenarios- I’ve moved away from simple possession practices (4v4 etc) - feel not enough appropriate outcomes are gained from them. More focused now on decision making match scenarios. 4v2 attacking the goals/ ‘pop up’ games / overloaded games in & out of possession. This is your chance to guide learning and hone in on the details in relatively small areas
4- Phase of Play, though both in & out of possession coaching cues will be dealt with here, focus on one per night. For example- attacking phase of play when the opposition defence are out of balance and you’re playing fast on the counter. Chance to open up the spaces. Little tip- dimensions are nearly always too small. Open it up to 3/4s the pitch! Some great physical outcomes here also- High speed running, sprint distances, repeated sprints. Give breaks and embrace the chaotic section of the session- it’ll often look messy & unplanned (just like a real match 😉)
5- SSG/MSG/LSG- here’s your chance to bring it all together! Put constraints on the set up. Allow as much free play as possible but also guide the practice to attain the outcomes you want from the session that you believe your team needs. Little tip- get out into the middle of the pitch, see what your players are seeing. Use small sided games for aerobic physical outcomes, high mechanical load, and lots of ‘actions’ & touches of the ball; use large sided games for HSR/Sprint distance physical outcomes and tactical team set up outcomes; but my favourite are medium sided games where you get a lovely mix of all and can mould the game to specific scenarios you want to achieve, while weaving in the previous coaching cues and match scenario-based outcomes you want to focus on.
What is your general session plan outline? 🤔
lads I’m in bits. Virgin Media news is after reporting on a hole on portmarnnock beach that ‘Could be the aftermath of a cosmic event’. Some fellas literally dug it the day before with a kid’s shovel
The way your man was talking about the rock being an asteroid had me in tears
