Trump’s $5 billion energy plan targets a basic vulnerability: too much Gulf oil still has to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway that carries about a fifth of the world’s oil.

The U.S. would put in $5 billion and ask Gulf partners to match it, funding repairs and export routes that do not depend on the strait. Fujairah already shows it works. The UAE pipes crude to a port on the open ocean, keeping 1.5–1.8 million barrels a day moving even when Hormuz is closed.

That should be the normal system, not a wartime backup.

@Macrobysunil Lumping the UAE in with Iran and Iraq overstates the risk. Non-oil is close to 80% of GDP, and it already has a working Hormuz bypass. The better question is what share of its oil exports is still stranded if the strait stays closed.
