The Edge of Empire
The well preserved remains of the Roman fort of Vinovia...and there must be so much more to be discovered hidden beneath the ground. A hidden gem @RomanBinchester@Englands_NE@DurhamBID#RomanBritain
With this in mind, we invite people to complete our short questionnaire in which we try to capture what you think is important and essential to a module called ‘Archaeology in Britain’: For more on our work around the curriculum see: https://t.co/ehsFe2VnNI
Changes are considered holistically and within the context of our curriculum as a whole. We are keen to get contributions and opinions about what material ought to be included in an UG archaeology module covering the archaeology of Britain from prehistory to to the modern day.
We are focused on supporting the University internship programme and piloting our first project centred on discussions of how to develop a new inclusive narrative for the module Archaeology in Britain.
Taking inspiration from Durham University’s initiatives around diversifying and democratising our curriculum, some staff and students in the Department of Archaeology are involved in a project evaluating and exploring the diverse nature of our subject .https://t.co/xIQ9AWPgZB
Archaeology of eclipses? On this threshing floor at Pobes in Pais Vasco, English astronomer G B Airy took initial measurements for the 1860 eclipse @ArcDurham@RoyalAstroSoc Gauging the darkness with a candle placed on the wall, he climbed the hill beyond to watch on the day.
Sorry to all those following the @AS_Corpus account 🤪. I went a bit bonkers on the Pershore (Worcs) frag just now 😅... it's rare I engage with figuration these days (shootout to the 🎨 art historians I know and love, even if my PhD is decidedly un-art historical 😉)
Excellent military belt mount from the Binchester excavations 2009-17 @RomanBinchester@aucklandproject@ArcDurham, in the form of a sheathed Roman sword or dagger with a suspension loop on the end. Late 3rd century says Alison Pollard @AshmoleanMuseum
Sadly we haven't had a reply from @FatboySlim, his agent or management. It's looking like he will take the cash and headline G! Festival in Faroe Islands tonight. Thank you again to @LewisCapaldi & Princess Nokia for putting animal welfare ahead of personal gain. #StopTheHunt🇫🇴
The Cherry trees are still in bloom here in Durham @dumuseums. We would love to see your photos of cherry blossom trees!
