Got to marvel at the Rupertus Cross in the Salzburger Dom (Cathedral museum) last week. Couldn't stop smiling! Thankful for these moments of renewed joy and wonder for the #earlymedieval world...which I've found somewhat difficult to keep while wading through a pandemic PhD.
Question for the hive mind: If you could only take 3 objects w/ you that represent core memories, what would they be?
Pets/people are a given.
Thinking about this as I learnt I lost most of my treasured childhood & uni objects - a burglar ransacked my storage unit back home.
Here’s a #Chalcolithic pottery ossuary from Azor, Israel. Used to hold the bones of the dead, this 🏠 house-shaped box was originally painted—its gables and windows decorated and delineated with pigment. 🎨

Can't make it to Lowther? The Great Court @britishmuseum has one of the Lowther pieces: a show-stopping vinescroll cross-shaft! 🌱
The church of St Bega on the shore of Bassenthwaite Lake (approached from the Cumbrian Way). C.10th century, the church may represent the Kingdom of Cumbria's Irish-Scandanavian links across the Irish Sea. More on the intriguing St Bega from Clare Downham: https://t.co/UdoKC74yfv
#Ireland Rock ‘n’ Road Trip Day 3: Killaghtee, #Donegal . The circular head contains a cross. Below the cross is a triple knot (triquetra). Possibly dates from about 650AD and might mark the grave of an early monk, St. Aedh who is believed to have had a ‘cell’ here. @weefiddler
