The activation was happening on his private iPhone, in the RSA app. I am sure the problem was copy/paste from the bank’s locked-down email system into the activation flow.

They locked down email in the name of security, but broke their own security process.

So IT’s workaround was private email.

This is security zealotry eating itself!

San Francisco exemplifies the contradictions in technology adoption.

The birthplace of AI, yet I visited a local bank branch today that still requires in-person transactions instead of online.

Nobody there had RSA activated, so they couldn't complete my transaction.

I overheard my banker talking to IT. They told him that activation would take some time, and he would need to use his private email because their email system doesn’t support the necessary security activation process.

There I was, in the global hub of AI, witnessing a major bank struggle with basic internal identity and security operations!

More important this is very much the preview of what the future looks like. At the moment, you might know that election budgets are insane. They’ll raise $50-100m for a big city/state race, then immediately turn around and spend 90% of it on TV advertising, mail etc. why? The audience is the boomers that vote, not nerds

But this will change and evolve. The voting population is getting more digitally savvy. AI videos generated by voters will dominate with ad spend meant to boost but not supplant the viral content. Daily viral AI video battleground. Gonna be wild.

We're now offering GPU sandboxes. So I spent the last week actually trying to source gpus for them.

All the sophisticated providers are sold out for 9-10 months minimum. They are demanding 50% prepayment upfront. The contract runs for 12-24 months. So you're effectively committing to hardware three years from now.

Then you go to the smaller providers, and you find that almost all of them are reselling the same GPUs from the same random data centers. Two different vendors with the same H100s but different prices.

Get deep enough, and you'll find the actual guy in the data center running between racks with a screwdriver. "just give me 5 mins, I'll swap the power source from that broken one into this one." Charges $10k a month.
