I suspect math will be like Chess and Go due to verifiability. The period of fruitful collaboration between humans and AI will be short (i.e. a few years or less, not a decade). Progress in math will be jagged, with harder to formalize fields coming last, but I suspect this jaggedness will be compressed in time -- I expect superhuman performance at (nearly?) all areas of math within a few years (a few = 2-3?).
AIs will also be better at asking pure math questions than humans, and will quickly develop theories beyond human comprehension.
Human theorists will have a recreational comparative advantage over other humans in understanding these theories, but AIs will be better at communicating these theories to applied researchers. Pure mathematicians will need to become applied researchers to do productive work, until applied research is also automated.
Confidence level for prediction: 50-65% for gist, 40-50% for all above claims being correct.
I stopped in Jackson Mississippi for barbecue. This guy right out of a David Lynch movie came up to me and said “I love that shirt, blue and orange. It’s like a flame. It’s the Holy Ghost. You don’t need to do a thing.”
NJ considering delaying the rollout of self-driving 5 years is shameful. I've done 150K+ miles on the tpk since 2016 w FSD - safe + relaxing. This am Cybertruck took me from Hammonton to Haddonfield, brilliantly maneuvering around left lane turners. @AndrewZwicker@elonmusk
At this point TikTok is probably 70% AI content.
I spent my whole morning on TikTok researching AI trends.
Here are 10 new AI video trends happening right now:

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority ("NJTA") has chosen a sole third-party charging provider to serve the New Jersey Turnpike and is not allowing us to co-locate. As a result, NJTA requested 64 existing Supercharger stalls on the New Jersey Turnpike to not be renewed and be decommissioned. We have been preparing for 3 years for this potential outcome by building 116 stalls off the New Jersey Turnpike, ensuring no interruption for our customers. The map below outlines the existing replacement Superchargers, and Trip Planner will adjust automatically.
We offered the NJTA above-market commercial terms, including offering to build Superchargers at all New Jersey service plaza and with equipment upgrades, such as screens and NACS with CCS1 "magic docks". Tesla always advocates for more infrastructure and co-location with additional third-party charging providers. This drives down costs through optionality, and accelerates EV adoption by having sufficient capacity to shoulder peaks. We expect that ~30 times more fast-charging capacity is needed to get to full EV adoption. NJTA's decision to remove, rather than add, critical charging infrastructure is a setback for New Jersey's EV adoption goals of 100% Zero-Emission New Car Sales by 2035. It removes Turnpike access to the most reliable (99.9% uptime), least congested (<1% waiters) and cost-effective (~30% lower $/kWh) charging.
We are still willing to invest in New Jersey Turnpike sites if @NJTurnpike or @GovMurphy want to reverse this decision. Otherwise, we will continue to build out the best possible infrastructure off the Turnpike to serve @DelValTesla and the EV drivers of New Jersey.
Stanley Zhong had a 4.42 GPA, a 1590 SAT, and ranked in the top 1% of the USA Computing Olympiad (Platinum). He built a free e-signing platform, reached the semifinals of Google Code Jam, and placed 2nd in MIT’s Battlecode.
Still, 15 of 18 colleges rejected him — including Stanford, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, and even Cal Poly.
But numbers aside, what’s most striking is hearing from Stanley himself. In the clip below, you’ll see a thoughtful, humble young man who even admits he didn’t expect to get into every top school — but still thought the state schools were within reach.
He’s not alone. Stories like this are surfacing everywhere. Students are asking: When did merit stop mattering?
It’s time we start rewarding it.
My Cybertruck getting the seig heil from a loon on the New Jersey Turnpike this am. Makes me want to add a third Tesla to my fleet. Go @elonmusk@Tesla@cybertruck !!
