For decades, Beijing has claimed that Tibet has always been part of China. That’s totally false.
My bill, the Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act, was signed into law and rejected those inaccurate claims and affirmed the State Department’s responsibility to work with allies and partners to negotiate a just resolution on Tibet.

China defines “Tibet” as only the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), excluding parts of Tibet’s traditional provinces, DoToe and DoMey, which were incorporated into Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan, and Yunnan after China’s invasion.
To reshape global perceptions and assert control, China promotes the Mandarin term “Xizang” instead of “Tibet,” reinforcing its claim that Tibet is inherently Chinese. Leveraging economic influence, China pushes this terminology internationally, as seen in the British Museum’s “Silk Road” exhibition, where “Xizang” was initially used but later removed after protests from Tibetans and human rights groups.

Namkyi, an exiled Tibetan activist who was arrested by Chinese authorities at age 15 for protesting against the regime’s oppression of Tibetans, is testifying at #GenevaSummit2025 NOW.
Namyki was held without trial in a detention center for thirteen months, facing physical and mental torture. At her sham trial, she was sentenced to three years imprisonment on the trumped-up charge of undertaking “separatist acts against the nation.”
After being released, Namkyi and her aunt escaped the country by walking for 10 days to reach India.
