These photos shows the famous “bridge to nowhere” phase of 3rd Mainland Bridge, Lagos from 1980-1988:
Phase 1: Completed 1980, opened by President Shehu Shagari.
Ran from Lagos Island to Adekunle/Yaba.
The 8-year gap: Construction stalled after 1980.
The deck just ended over the lagoon for years, 1980-1988 (Photos 1 and 2).
It became a landmark and symbol of abandoned projects.
Completed: Phase 2 from Adekunle to Oworonshoki was finished and opened to traffic in 1990 under Babangida.
So for about 8 years that cut-off end you see was how it stayed, while piers stretched ahead with no deck.
I remember seeing it like that back then as a young man.
You're actually proving my point.
The Ifẹ̀–Modákẹ́kẹ́ conflict happened within Yorùbáland. The Kírìji War happened within Yorùbáland. Yet today, Yorùbás still broadly recognize one another as a people with a shared language, history, and culture. The unity is visible.
Historical conflict is not evidence that a people cannot govern themselves. If it were, there would be no Italy, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, China, Japan, or countless other states whose constituent groups fought one another for centuries.
You mention Kòsọ́kọ́. Yes, some Yorùbá elites participated in the slave trade. So did elites from many societies across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. That is a tragedy of human history, not a uniquely Yorùbá phenomenon.
You mention Omoọba Fábùnmi and the Èkìtì Parapọ̀. Good. Yorùbá history includes resistance, reform, rivalry, cooperation, empire-building, state-building, and civil conflict. Like every other people's history.
What I find interesting is that when discussing Yorùbá self-determination, people like you suddenly treat historical conflict as disqualifying. Yet you do not apply that same standard to any of the nations that exist today.
The existence of past conflict does not answer the question of whether a people have the right or capacity to determine their own political future.
Similar case, the wife refused conjugal obligations because husband cheated, after about 6 months of staying together she later brought petition for dissolution on ground of adultery.
The husband filed Cross Petition for restitution of conjugal obligations. The matter was resolved at Compulsory Conference after husband promised to buy her a brand new car.
Saying it’s bigotry is stupidity, Atiku cannot be VP again, if you disagree say no and move on. But it’s simply stupid to say that it’s bigotry to suggest someone be VP, especially when they came into national prominence by being VP. If you think 6.8m votes with 25% in 20 states is same as 6m with 25% in 14, then that’s extra stupid,
@ABiggerSpalash Grief has different forms. Most people won't understand how it can make you wither not just emotionally, but also physically. Heartache can be fatal.

Omowunmi, are you saying since the incident happened in Oyo state, you haven’t been working? You haven’t been going to your office or shop?
Are you saying no one in your family goes out to their daily job since the incident?
This is not about you not watching a movie or you watching 10 movie at a sit, this is you telling someone to pause their livelihood
That’s you telling an ordinary citizen like you, that has mouths to feed, bills to pay, to stop their work, so that you can see that they are grieving
How many banks have you walked in to tell them to close down?
Have you told your pepper seller customer in the market to stop selling pepper?
You are directing your anger to a tax payer like you, just because she’s more famous than you.
Does the fact that she’s famous now makes her the government?
You’re bullying everyone online instead of you to come out and lead a protest as a good and concerned citizen
You hypocrite
If the best person to lead Nigeria is whom you criticised publicly online as a terrible leader when he was governor, then you are after my life.
It is in my best interest that you do not succeed.
Nigerians are going to have to be as wary of Obi's cult members the same way we were wary of General Buhari's cult members, same way we warned about their propensity for violent and mindless support. People who cannot imagine life without a deity to worship, where they can suspend all common sense and become vicious against any who dares question their holy saviour. Nigeria will not change with this addiction to personalities and cults. It will change when no politician is above scrutiny, when Nigerians do not lower the bar for their tribesman and preferred candidate. Because every rotten thing the APC did in its primaries, was replicated in opposition primaries. And we see the candidates complaining loudly. If you claim your candidate is better, then you must lift the bar, not lower it. You do not help your candidate by kneeling at his feet and fellating him, while growling at those who point to the semen on your face. Get off your knees and treat politicians like those who work for you, not like cult leaders and messiahs. Ask yourself, do you want Nigeria to change, or do you want a new face in charge of your oppression?
You were even Yoruba before Islam was created
The DNA in you was not a mistake by Allah
Infact, who is one in Islam who does not guard his/her Kinship ?
Before you could even recite an Arabic Letter , You spoke Yoruba .
Now in this context of “Insecurity” - Your statement is a Trigger !
This was just about a year ago .
What sort of faith brotherhood will allow you accommodate people like this ?
People known to kill, maim and destroy in the name of the faith ?
This is my hometown and it is everything that is dear to me , faith brotherhood won't repair the damage they could have done to the entire society
These evil men, despite observing prayers and residing around the Ummah community, were planning to kill within that same community .
